The epic film of the summer “Guardians of the Galaxy” is out in theaters today. Marvel shares with us a whole new universe in the action-packed film that will leave your kids begging to see it again and again! Before taking your kids to go see the film this weekend, share with them these ten fun facts about the film…you’re welcome!

The film is based on the Guardians of the Galaxy comic book series created by Arnold Drake and Gene Colan that was first introduced in 1969.

They started shooting the film in the UK in June of 2013 during the hot summer through autumn.

The director, James Gunn, felt it was important for the cast to film on physical sets instead of green-screen. The space prison was the largest set built featuring a 360-degree set made with 100 tons of steel across three levels.

When designing Peter Quill’s (Star-Lord) spaceship, the Milano, they wanted it to have 1980’s nostalgia. Their inspiration for the Milano was Chuck Yeager and the early test flights that took place in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s.

It is the first Marvel film where the main characters are not heroes, but outlaws and misfits. Although they are the tradition Marvel “heroes” and pretty much don’t care about anybody but themselves, they come together and try to save the universe from destruction.

Chris Pratt reveals and incredibly fit body in the film. He trained four hours a day and stuck to a strict diet for five months to get in shape for the role. He continued with the intense work-out regimen with the help of nutritionists and trainers during the next five months of production.

The make-up in the film is a huge part of bringing the characters to life in the film. The character Drax’s makeup application took a team of five makeup artists five hours a day to apply which totaled about seven entire days in make-up!

The 1980’s cassette player is just like a character in the film. The team spent four months searching the internet for the perfect cassette player to use in the film, and were only about to find 16 cassette players in various states that were suitable to use in the film.

Our #1 favorite thing about the film is the music! The first thing moviegoers are going to do after the film is download the soundtrack onto their iPods. They would play the music on the set while the actors were filming to give them a sense of the mood they were shooting for when filming the different sequences.
