10 Things to do in Puerto Peñasco
We visited as a guest of Mexico
Puerto Peñasco is a quaint fishing village located along the Sea of Cortez that is just about a 45-minute flight from Tijuana. When families arrive in Puerto Peñasco, they will feel a sense of calming come over them as they bask in the beautiful ocean views and savor local cuisine. When bringing your family to visit Puerto Peñasco, these are ten things that you must do when visiting the area:
Swim in the Sea of Cortez
The Sea of Cortez (known by Jacques Cousteau as the world’s aquarium) is one of the most beautiful bodies of water on our planet. The water has a higher salt concentration which gives your body a healing effect while floating in the water. Make sure and bring along a snorkel and goggles because fish are everywhere – even just a few steps away from shore.
Go Wine Tasting
The temperature in some areas of Mexico is ideal for making wines. While in Puerto Peñasco, do some wine tasting and had dinner at the popular Tapeo Wine Bar. This eclectic wine bar features an open air patio and wines from the popular Mexico wine country destination, Valle de Guadalupe.
Visit the Pinacate Biosphere
Your children will be in awe when visiting the Pinacate Biosphere. The moon-like crater is over a mile wide and rich in history. Your family will go on a twisty ride along a small dirt road for miles before reaching the majestic sight. It is a sight that everyone must witness in their lifetime. I recommend hiring a tour guide at the opening of the reserve to educate your children on the crater and all the things you’ll see while exploring the reserve.
Have Dinner with your Toes in the Sand
Whenever I am in Mexico, I always plan to have a sunset dinner on the beach. There is nothing better than watching the sunset while sitting at a white linen covered table just steps away from the sea. Peñasco Del Sol Hotel in Puerto Peñasco offers different themed dining events on their white sandy beach – it is a must!
Drink Cocktails by the pool
While we were staying in Puerto Peñasco, we stayed at the popular resort, Las Palomas Beach & Golf Resort. The resort featured two beautiful pools complete with a swim-up bar to enjoy a cocktail after a day of exploring the city.
Play a Round of Golf
While taking a break from swimming in the beautiful turquoise waters, have some fun in the sun while golfing at the Vidanta Golf Course. The beautiful Vidanta Golf Course backs the Sea of Cortez and offers a challenging course for experienced golfers and a driving range for beginners. Don’t forget to take a margarita break in between your rounds of golf at the Vidanta Golf Club.
Eat Ceviche with Ocean Views
One restaurant that your family must visit while in Puerto Peñasco is Casa del Capitan. The restaurant is perched on the highest mountain and offers guests majestic panoramic views of Puerto Peñasco. They not only have killer views but also some of the best ceviche I enjoyed while spending time in the area. I recommend planning dinner here at sunset to get the most out of your visit.
Take a break at the Spa
You can’t leave Mexico without a little relaxation at one of their premier spas. We had the pleasure of getting a pedicure at the Las Palomas Beach & Golf Resort Spa and a hot stone massage at the Brio Spa. You can never visit too many spas treatments when on vacation..right?
Walk along the Malecón
There is so much happening along the Malecón for families to enjoy. There is shopping, dining, and entertainment galore. It is also a perfect place to capture photo memories of your vacation at sunset. Don’t miss stopping at one of the food carts for some fresh elote.
Go on a Sunset Cruise
The best way to end your getaway to Puerto Peñasco is by going on a sunset cruise. Your family can dance to music while floating into the sunset. It will make for a night to remember forever.
When looking for somewhere fun to get away from the stresses of daily life, Puerto Peñasco is the place. Flights are readily available through the Tijuana Airport with the convenient Cross Border Xpress (CBX).
