Authentic Italian Cuisine at Angelina’s
We dined as a guest of the venue
After marrying into an Italian family, it has become hard for me to find an Italian restaurant that serves food as good as I can get at my in-law’s house, but I am always searching. With my daughter having a couple of days off from school, I wanted to treat her to lunch out and brought her to the new popular Italian dining destination – Angelina’s.
The restaurant is located in the new Los Olivos Marketplace in Irvine. The shopping center has such a wide variety of restaurants and stores that the parking lot was full when we arrived. Once we found a parking spot, we walked into the elegant restaurant for lunch.
The moment that we walked into the restaurant, we were greeted by friendly staff. They immediately helped us to find a perfect table, and told us about their various specials. The menu had a wide variety of delicious offerings, but since I am watching my calorie intake, I made the choice to order some of the healthier options on their menu.
We started our meal by tasting one of their popular cocktails on the menu (virgins of course). The cocktail featured blackberries and tasted just like a mojito only a little sweeter. My daughter loved the mocktails, and I found her drinking not only hers but also mine.
For starters, my daughter ordered their delicious meatballs. The dish featured three large meatballs topped with burrata cheese and homemade tomato sauce. The meatballs melted in our mouth and were paired perfectly with pieces of freshly baked focaccia bread.
While she was devouring her meatballs, I was savoring every sip of my Zuppa de Fagioli. The soup was vegan, light, and delicious. It is a classic Neapolitan soup that was made with cannellini beans and rosemary. It was the perfect start to my lunch at Angelina’s.
The one thing that caught my daughter’s eye when we entered the restaurant was the large pizza oven. She immediately knew that she wanted to have pizza, but there were so many choices, it was hard for her to decide. She finally made the decision to order the prosciutto pizza that featured prosciutto di Parma, Fior Di Latte mozzarella, San Marzano DOP Pomodoro Sauce, fresh basil and extra virgin olive oil. The pizza was everything she had hoped it would be and more.
The minute that the server mentioned that there was octopus in the daily special, I immediately knew that I wanted it. The dish was a fresh salad featuring grilled octopus, shrimp, arugula, potato, tomatoes, and red onions. It was tossed in a light vinaigrette and had my taste buds dancing with delight.
While I couldn’t eat another bite, my daughter couldn’t resist trying their Nutella pizza. The pizza was similar to a breakfast dish that my husband would eat at home when he was a kid, and came smothered with a thick layer of Nutella topped with strawberries and bananas – pure bliss.
Angelina’s far exceeded our expectations and is now one of our favorite Italian dining destinations.
