Best Family Hotel in La Jolla: Hyatt Regency La Jolla
We stayed as a guest of the resort
Last year, we started spending a lot of time in La Jolla. We created unforgettable memories kayaking into sea caves, whale watching, visiting the sea lions, and dining at cutting edge restaurants. The one thing that we have not experienced was staying the night together as a family in La Jolla until recently. Instead of making our summer trip a day trip, we made it a weekend getaway by staying at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla.
The Hyatt Regency La Jolla is located just a short distance from the crystalline La Jolla waters and activities. The moment that we arrived at the resort, we were greeted by the charming staff. Our kids relaxed in the children’s lounge while I checked us into our room for the weekend.
The moment that we opened the door to our hotel room, we felt at home. The hotel has the option of having your hotel decorated specially for your children. My kids squealed with delight when they saw the tee-pee tent, book shelf, special pillows, and decorative lamps in their room. They immediately crawled into the tent and began reading the books that were provided by the staff. I have stayed at many hotels over my career, and have never seen a hotel staff go to this length to ensure that children feel comfortable, relaxed, and at home while staying at their property.
Once our family had settled in for the trip, we headed straight to the pool. We had reserved a cabana for the weekend that was already set-up for us upon arrival. There was fresh water, towels, and pool toys for us to use for the day. My husband and I relaxed in the cabana while the kids dove into the refreshing swimming pool.
The pool area is large, and there are enough activities to keep the kids busy for the entire day. There was giant Jenga, ping pong, hula hoops, and a craft table. When the kids needed a break from the pool, they were still kept entertained. We enjoyed lunch at the cabana, and since there were so many activities to keep the kids busy, my husband and I were able to have some rare time alone.
Once the sun began to set, and the kids did their last cannon ball into the pool for the day, our family got dressed and walked just a few steps away from the hotel for dinner at Cafe Japengo. The Asian fusion restaurant featured some of the best sushi we have ever had and offered healthy, fresh, and delicious kids meal options.
When we returned to the hotel, the kids got back into their swim gear and headed to the pool for a dive-in movie. The kids floated on the water while watching Big Hero 6, and roasted marshmallows. It was the perfect ending to our first night together as a family in La Jolla.
In the morning, the hotel had towels, beach chairs, a picnic lunch and umbrellas waiting for us to bring to La Jolla Strand Beach. We jumped into the car and headed to the sands of La Jolla where our children splashed in the water, explored the tide pools and visited the sea lions. It was a magical day that will live long in the hearts of my children forever.
The Hyatt Regency La Jolla is the best place for families to stay when visiting the area. The staff will create a family travel experience unlike any other by providing the best hospitality. When looking for a fun new place to have a weekend getaway with your family this summer, make plans to stay at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla.
