Best Fish Tacos in Maui: Ono Tacos

We stayed as a guest of the resort

If you’ve been following our blog for any length of time, then you know about my obsession with tacos. Everywhere that I travel, I have to try and find the best tacos in the area. The last place that I expected to find good tacos was while on our trip to Maui.

It was our first day together as a family on the island, and we just finished paddle boarding with Hale Huakaʻi around black rock, and we were relaxing on the beach under a cabana at the Ka’anapali Beach Hotel when I received an Instagram message from one of our readers. She had noticed that we were in Maui and knew my love for tacos, and recommended that I try Ono Tacos.

I immediately googled the taco shop and realized that it was just about a 5-10 minute drive from our hotel, so we loaded the kids into the rental car and made our way down to Ono’s to get some lunch.

When we arrived, I was surprised to find that it was a food truck in the middle of a strip mall parking lot with a couple of plastic chairs and tables. We walked up to the food truck, and the menu was pretty simple and consisted of all my favorite kind of tacos.

Since our reader had recommended the shrimp tacos, that was just what I ordered. My husband ordered the fish tacos, and the kids all got carne asada tacos. When we sat down at the table another family was eating burritos that were huge, and had me wishing that I had also gotten a burrito to try.

When our food was ready, and we sunk our taste buds into the fresh Mexican food, I was in heaven. They were some of the best tacos that I have ever devoured, and my kids ended up asking for seconds. The food truck had a mini salsa bar so that our family could customize our tacos to our flavor liking and I recommend trying their marinated radishes.

Ono Tacos is located at 910 Honoapiilani Hwy, Lahaina, HI 96761. They are open daily from 11 am to 9 pm, and they take cash only. Their pricing was good for island food prices! When staying at the Ka’anapali Beach Hotel, make plans to have a quick lunch or dinner at Ono. It won’t take a lot of time away from your relaxation at the resort, and I guarantee you’ll want to come back for more.
