Best Shave Ice in Maui: Gus’ Hawaiian Shave Ice

We stayed as a guest of the resort

After checking into the beautiful Ka’anapali Beach Hotel in Maui, I went for a short drive up north to see the Nakalele Blowhole. While on my way to the blowhole, I was admiring the lush landscaping when I spotted the cutest VW bus I have ever seen on the side of the road. When I noticed that the sign on top of the bus said “shave ice,” I turned my car around to enjoy a sweet and refreshing treat at Gus’ Hawaiian Shave Ice.

Little did I realize that I was about to sink my taste buds into the best shave ice I have ever had. Inside of the bus was the nicest man who helped to navigate me through their menu. There were so many delicious flavor choices and of which included the flavors gummy bear, bubble gum, and birthday cake. I finally landed on my decision of getting one of their most popular flavors – birthday cake, and I got some ice cream filling.

When I took my first bite of the shave ice, I was in heaven. It was sweet, refreshing and delicious. Truly the best shave ice I have ever had. I enjoyed every bite of my dessert while overlooking the beautiful Maui coastline excited about all the memories that we were going to have while staying at the Ka’anapali Beach Hotel.

On our last day exploring Maui, we were riding Pedego electric bikes around south Maui when I spotted Gus’ Hawaiian shave Ice VW bus again. I had told my kids about how delicious the shave ice was, and when they saw the bus, they asked if we could stop so they could try the shave ice. The kids loved Gus’ just as much as I did, and they ate every last bite.

When visiting Maui with your family, make plans to have shave ice at Gus’ Hawaiian Shave Ice – many locals say that their shave ice is powered by unicorns! The family owned business parks their bus at different spots around Maui throughout the week, and they can easily be found by checking on their Facebook page. The price is also very reasonable for large families with it being $4 for a small and $6 for a large.
