Best Yosemite Hiking Trail for Young Children

We visited as a guest of Tenaya

Yosemite Falls Trail

Yosemite is one of the most beautiful places that I have visited in the world. After coming back from a mother/daughter getaway to Yosemite, I have been getting a lot of questions about whether or not there are hiking trails fit for younger children. In the past, I have always recommended the Mirror Lake trail because it is mostly paved (good for strollers) but on this trip, I discovered my new favorite trail for younger children, Lower Yosemite Falls Hiking Trail.

Discover Yosemite Tour

I wish that I could take credit for discovering this awesome Yosemite trail, but it is all thanks to our incredible tour guide with Discover Yosemite Tours, Glenn. Glenn knows every detail about Yosemite National Park, and since we had a lot of young families with small children on our tour, he decided that this was the perfect trail for us to visit.

Beginning of Lower Yosemite Falls Trail

The trail is located near the Majestic Yosemite Hotel, and there is a parking lot (with nice clean bathrooms) at the start of the trail. The trail is about 1/4 a mile, and your family can make the trail round trip in about 30-40 minutes. The best part of this trail is the view.

The minute that we started walking on the trail we had the best view of Yosemite Falls, and it kept getting better as we approached the falls. We stopped along the trail to admire all the nature along the side of the trail. There were beautiful leaves, pine cones, and lots of snow.

Once we approached the falls, it was such a beautiful sight. We were right at the base of the falls, and we were able to capture some special photos. There is a small bridge that families can walk over to see the falls from a different view, but everyone is encouraged NOT to climb on the rocks. Our tour guide advised us that there have been many injuries from people trying to climb on the rocks, so remind your kiddos to keep both feet on the ground.

Waterfall love

We spent about 20 minutes at the falls. It was so beautiful that we didn’t want to leave. Once we were done watching the majestic waterfall, we returned to our tour bus where Glenn continued to show us more hidden gems located throughout Yosemite National Park.

When your family is planning a visit to Tenaya Lodge, I highly recommend booking a day tour with Discover Yosemite through the Tenaya Lodge concierge, and ask for Glenn. You won’t have to worry about driving on icy roads, and Glenn will customize the tour to fit your family’s needs – plus he knows where all the nice bathrooms are located throughout the park, which is important when traveling with little kids. Have fun exploring Yosemite!
