Bodyboarding Adventures Summer Camp

Sponsored

This summer, get ready to send your kids on an epic adventure exploring the ocean with Southern California’s only bodyboarding school, Bodyboarding Adventures! The best summer camp for children is one that will keep the kids active, exploring, and having fun. Children will experience all of this and more at the Bodyboarding Adventures Summer Camp!

Bodyboarding (or “boogie” boarding) is one of the best ways to get your children comfortable riding waves in our beautiful ocean and is much safer than surfing. Water safety is the biggest concern of parents when looking into a summer camp at our local beaches, but with Bodyboarding Adventures, parents can have the ease of knowing their children are safe in the hands of the most professional bodyboarders in the industry. Every instructor is CPR and First Aid-certified, and they have a maximum of 4 students assigned per instructor. When your child is in the water, the teacher/student ratio is reduced to 3:1 or 2:1 – you can’t find ratios like this with any other ocean-based summer camp in Orange County.  They’ll also get a chance to learn about the ocean and participate in a beach clean-up every Tuesday through a partnership with the San Clemente Beach Conservation Group.

Virtually anyone can grab a board and start bodyboarding. The learning curve is much smaller because there is no balancing or standing up – kids just lay their stomachs on the board and let the waves take them on a ride! Once they learn the basics, the instructors will teach them how to do spin moves, barrel rolls and more (check out this 6-year old riding waves like a pro!). Bodyboarding is also accessible to people of all ages and abilities including those with physical limitations (such as leg, knee or foot issues) since it doesn’t require standing on a board. Bodyboarding Adventures’ co-founder, Steve Barnes, had little experience in the ocean when he discovered the sport in his early thirties. He was quickly able to learn the basics in a short period of time and “catch the fever” (as they say in the Hawaiian Islands) for a sport that can be enjoyed for a lifetime.

The summer camp is offered through the City of San Clemente Recreation Division at North Beach and is available for children ages 6+. If you have children who might feel timid about getting into the ocean, bodyboarding is a great way for them to feel comfortable swimming, playing and enjoying it. Registration is currently available online.

If your family wants to learn how to bodyboard together, they also offer private lessons. Private lessons are $75/hour (per person) from June 1 – August 31, 2017.

The week-long camp offers a choice of two, 3-hour sessions each week – one in the morning from 9:00am to 12pm, and one in the afternoon from 12:30pm to 3:30pm.  For the month of June, you can also sign up for a single 3-hour session (either morning or afternoon) on any day, Monday through Friday.
