Bowers Museum Camp Kidseum Art and Archaeology

Bowers Museum in Santa Ana presents Camp Kidseum Art and Archaeology this summer for children ages 6 to 11. Eight five-day camps will be offered at Bowers Kidseum (located at 1802 N. Main St. in Santa Ana), and will be led by professional museum staff archaeologists and art instructors. Each week will focus on a different ancient culture and introduce students to a variety of diverse art and traditions practiced all around the world, so students are encouraged to sign up for multiple camps.

Camps take place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Extended daycare services are available 7:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m. and 3:00-5:30 p.m. every day for a fee of $85/week. Sign-up today online or by calling 714.480.1520!

Week 1: Junior Archaeology
Monday, June 22–Friday, June 26 | 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Imagine the thrill of discovering ancient artifacts from hundreds, or even thousands, of years ago.
Campers will learn how to excavate, clean, document, and interpret their archaeological discoveries.

Week 2: Discovering the First Americans
Monday, June 29–Friday, July 3 | 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
$160 museum members | $185 non-members | +$85 for extended daycare (7:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m. and 3:00-5:30 p.m.)
Participate in an exciting simulated excavation of a local Native American campsite; join in on traditional dance and song; create totem poles, dream catchers, clay pots; and experience much more.

Week 3: Digging China
Monday, July 6–Friday, July 10 | 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
$160 museum members | $185 non-members | +$85 for extended daycare (7:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m. and 3:00-5:30 p.m.)
Discover the exciting history of China through storytelling, calligraphy, watercolors, and more. Campers will participate in a lion dance celebration and a visit to the China gallery at the Bowers Museum.

Week 4: Exploring the Ancient Maya
Monday, July 13–Friday, July 17 | 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
$160 museum members | $185 non-members | +$85 for extended daycare (7:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m. and 3:00-5:30 p.m.)
Explore the lost Mayan culture through the study of massive ruins, interpretation of Mayan glyphs, and
reconstruction of a piece of Mayan pottery.

Week 5: Egypt: Pharaohs and Gods of the Nile
Monday, July 20–Friday, July 24 | 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
$160 museum members | $185 non-members | +$85 for extended daycare (7:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m. and 3:00-5:30 p.m.)
Uncover the wonders of the Nile through a series of simulated digs. Campers will write in Egyptian
hieroglyphics, examine artifacts under a microscope, and listen to tall tales of Ancient Egypt.

Week 6: Mummy Mania
Monday, July 27–Friday, July 31 | 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
$160 museum members | $185 non-members | +$85 for extended daycare (7:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m. and 3:00-5:30 p.m.)
Learn about mummies from all over the world by creating a Roman mummy portrait mask, a Peruvian mummy bundle, and a mask inspired by the Maori of New Zealand.

Week 7: Stop Motion Animation
Monday, August 3–Friday, August 7 | 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
$200 museum member | $215 non-members | +$85 for extended daycare (7:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m. and 3:00-5:30 p.m.)
Stories come to life through stop-motion animation. Campers will learn essential skills needed for movie animation, and create and premier a film at Kidseum.

Week 8: Mysteries of the Museum
Monday, August 10–Friday, August 14 | 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Experience a unique backstage pass to the inner-workings of the Bowers Museum, followed by the opportunity to create a variety of museum-inspired art projects.

About Kidseum
The newly renovated Bowers Kidseum is a high-tech and interactive art and archaeology museum for children, with a focus on its new mission: igniting imagination through exploration. Be sure to check out the “Glow Cave” with its fun glow-in-the-dark art activities, ride the magical Wells Fargo stagecoach through time in the “Green Screen Time Machine,” and explore archaeology like never before in our new Archaeology Lab. Kidseum boasts new smart tables, smart boards, and computers offering visual simulation and engaging education for visitors. The museum also offers special activities and events like face painting, animal encounters, archaeological digs, summer camps, and more.
