CASA Celebration Raises Over 1 Million Dollars for OC Youth

CASA Black and White Ball

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) hosted their annual Celebration of Children: Black and White ball over the weekend at The Ritz-Carlton in Laguna Niguel. Over 400 guests attended the celebration to help support the work that CASA does in our community for abused, abandoned and neglected children.

As a mother of two adopted children, the work that CASA is doing in our community touches my heart in a special way. They are my favorite non-profit in Orange County, and I was thrilled to attend the event along with my husband.

The event was one of the most beautiful CASA events to date and the hard work of the co-chairs, Lourdes Nark, Kay Patel, Urvashi Patel and Wendy Tenebaum shined! There was extreme attention to every detail of the majestically decorated ballroom.

The evening began with a silent auction in the courtyard where guests were sipping on champagne while placing their bids on the variety of lavish auction items. From designer handbags to dining experiences, there was something for everyone to bid on in support of CASA.

During the event, Former USC Quarterback and NFL Quarterback to the Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys, Paul McDonald, served as Master of Ceremonies. Kylie Schuyler and Douglas M. Hodge received CASA’s highest given award, “Children’s Champion”, for their many years of support and personal dedication to children’s well-being while in the foster care system. Anaheim Hills resident, Janice Jefferson, was honored as “Advocate of the Year” for her amazing work in successfully advocating for the deaf child she is matched with to receive a sign language interpreter in school. The speeches were powerful, emotional, and left a lifelong impression with all of the guests attending the event.

Then excitement filled the air as the live auction began. Guests held their auction cards high in the air as they bid on a Dream Vacation Home Experience in Phuket, Thailand, Earring’s from Lugano Diamonds, and more.

Finally, the evening ended with a special performance by the Grammy Award nominated and season two American Idol contestant, Ruben Studdard. It was the perfect ending to a memorable evening.
