Batsheva Dance Company: Decadence

Posted by on Feb 23, 2017 in Entertainment, Theatre | 0 comments

We attended as a guest of the venue. One thing I absolutely love doing is taking time away and dipping in the arts. This venue was no ordinary dip…it an artistic plunge! Segerstrom Center for the Arts presented Israel’s acclaimed Batsheva Dance Company in the Segerstrom Hall for a special one-night-only engagement. This ballet company brought in a whole new revolutionized dance. After sinking back in my red velvet-plush theatre chair at the Segerstrom Hall, I couldn’t help but be excited! The Batsheva Dancers awed the crowds from beginning to end. It was poetry in motion watching the performers drift, almost effortlessly, across the stage. For five decades, the Batsheva Dance Company has been considered one of the foremost contemporary dance companies in the world. I’ve had the privilege of attending many ballets in my lifetime (the Royal Opera...

We visited as a guest of the venue Did you watch the GRAMMY’s this year? It was one of the best award shows of the year, and we were thrilled to have an inside looking into the 59th Annual GRAMMY Gift Lounge. The gift lounge was located in a series of white tents next to the Staples Center where the most influential stars in Hollywood gathered to be showered with lavish gifts. When we walked into the gift lounge, we were greeted with a glass of champagne filled with 24k gold flakes. As we sipped on our glass of champagne, we stopped to talk with the different vendors about the various products they were gifting the celebrities. We saw many singers walking around the lounge talking with the various companies about their products and collecting gift bags filled with...

Sample received I love to watch and read Marvel Comics. Growing up with two brothers there has always been Marvel Comic books all over my house and a Marvel movie always playing on the television. It is rarely I read or look at a Marvel movie about a girl, so when I found out about the book The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: Squirrel Meets World I was stoked! I literally grabbed the book and started reading it the first minute I received it. From when I first started the book I couldn’t stop reading it! I took it everywhere with me. It wasn’t just the storyline that kept me going, but it was the vivid details. After I had turned every page, there was another amazing twist. One of the main reasons I love The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl is because...

Posted by on Feb 10, 2017 in Entertainment, Film | 0 comments

We visited as a guest of Warner Bros Your children are going to fall in love with Batman all over again in theaters starting today when watching The Lego Batman movie. Last week, I took my kids to the Warner Bros studio lot in a cool Chevrolet Cruz Hatchback for a sneak peek at the film, and my kids loved every minute of the movie. Once the theater went dark, and the film began, we were immersed into the world in which Batman lives. We were laughing throughout the entire film, and on the edge of our seats wondering how Batman was going to save Gotham City from his arch enemy, The Joker. My kids got to see a different side of Batman in this movie. He is hilarious, a little egotistical, and has a big heart behind those...

When I told him the news that we were going to Los Angeles for the World Premiere of The Lego Batman Movie as a guest of Chevrolet, he squealed with delight. Did you know that the Batmobile is a Chevrolet? That’s right – it sure is! Since Batman drives a Chevrolet, we couldn’t arrive at the premiere driving any other kind of car. The morning of the premiere, we got into our cool blue Chevrolet Cruz Hatchback and cruised down the freeway to the premiere. I downloaded The Lego Batman soundtrack album to my iPhone, plugged my phone into the Chevrolet...

Posted by on Feb 6, 2017 in Education, Entertainment, Theatre | 0 comments

We visited as a guest of OCSA Last week I had the opportunity to have a one-on-one interview with Ali Stroker at Orange County School of the Arts (OSCA). My mom and I attended the “Performing with the Pros” showcase performance at OCSA featuring Ali Stroker. Ali Stroker had been working with the students in the showcase for weeks leading up to the performance by sharing her talents and inspiring the group of students to reach for their dreams. Ever since I was ten, I have been watching Glee and The Glee Project, so I was so excited to meet Ali Stroker in real life and not just on a television screen. In case you don’t know Ali Stroker is, she is the first ever Broadway star in a wheelchair, and she also stars in multiple shows. When we...

I grew up collecting and playing with troll dolls as a child, and when Dreamworks released the movie, I couldn’t wait to share it with my children. We got dressed up in our most colorful outfits and went to the theater together as a family to watch the film. The film had my children giggling with delight and out of their chairs dancing in the theater. It quickly became one of their favorite films of the year. The DVD and Blu-ray edition of the film features an interactive ‘Party Mode’ that will encourage your children to sing – dance...

The Magical Disney Vault

We attended as a guest of Disney If you’re a fan of Disney animated films, you already know that they often reference “The Vault.” It’s where the original films and artwork are allegedly kept. I was surprised and delighted to find that it really exists. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, The Disney Vault is real. A nondescript building in Glendale, California houses an amazing collection of Disney animation art dating back to the 1920’s where the storyboard sketches and animation cells are painstakingly preserved in a protected environment. The actual name of this magical place is the Walt Disney Animation Research Library (the ARL). The occasion for this visit was the release of the Walt Disney animation classic, Pinocchio on Blu-ray (available in stores now). The Disney Vaults – there are 11 of them – contain every sketch, every conceptual...

Ronja the Robber’s Daughter on Amazon

Posted by on Jan 30, 2017 in Entertainment, Television Shows | 0 comments

Early screening provided I love anime movies! When my mom got a pre-screening of Ronja the Robber’s daughter, I was a little confused at first. First of all, I have never heard of this series and was excited to watch something new. And second, of all, I was happy that it is anime because you can never go wrong with anime. We received the first 16 episodes, and I couldn’t wait to watch them all. When I started the series, I was immediately into it. You can watch Ronja live her life from when she is a newborn baby to when she gets older. She faces many challenges but goes on mind-blowing adventures. One of the reasons I love this series is because it is relatable to real life situations. She meets people she likes and people she dislikes...

The Magic of Matilda the Musical

Posted by on Jan 23, 2017 in Entertainment, Theatre | 0 comments

We attended as a guest of the venue Ever since I was about five, I started watching the movie “Matilda.” I watched it at home, at my Grandparent’s house and I would bring it to my friend’s houses with me. When I was old enough to read chapter books, one of the first books I read was Matilda. I have literally grown up with Matilda, so when I went to see the Nutcracker, and I saw that they were going to make a musical out of Matilda, I was so excited that when I got home, I quickly asked my mom if we could go. When we got to the theater, I was so excited, but unfortunately on opening day they had some technical difficulties and the show was canceled. I was upset at first, but my mom reassured...

Review copy received When was the last time that you had a date night with your husband? You don’t have to go out to have a special night together, and plan an in-home movie date night. My husband and I have an in-home movie date night every week where we set our kids upstairs with a movie of their choice, we order takeout, and enjoy a romantic movie together alone on the couch. When I was given an advanced copy of the movie “The Light Between Oceans,” I immediately knew it would be the perfect movie for our next in-home date night. Last night, we ordered some Chinese food, and then dimmed the living rooms lights to begin watching “The Light Between Oceans.” The movie was beautifully produced and the story was moving. It is based on the 2012...

We were invited as a guest for a private screening of Amazon’s Just Add Magic. When my daughter found out we were going to attend a private screening and Q & A with the stars of Just Add Magic, she was giddy with excitement.  Not only were we going to get to see a private screening of episode 1 of season 2 but also were treated to tasty treats, a DIY station for decorating aprons, and a chance to talk to the cast.   Amazon’s Just Add Magic series is a favorite in our house.  Being a child of the 70’s, my parents didn’t have to search for a “family friendly” show for us to watch.  There was pretty much one on every channel, (all seven channels), at any time throughout the day and evening.   Fast forward 40 years...
