Tips for Successful Raised Bed Gardening

Posted by on May 22, 2017 in Autos, Gardening, Green Living, Kia | 0 comments

Sponsored in partnership with Kia When my oldest son developed severe food allergies, I turned to food to help heal his overactive immune system. I found that by feeding him a plant-based diet with all organic produce that his allergies decreased, and he had fewer anaphylaxis reactions to food. The only downside was that feeding a family of five a diet rich with organic food was very costly, but I wasn’t going to let that stop me. I went to The Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano and got information on how to start growing organic produce for my family in our backyard. I had my husband tear out most of our grass in the backyard, build raised beds, and we got started on what we now call “The Barone Farm.” Over the years, I have successfully been able...

An Auto Manufacturer Deeply Rooted in our Community

Posted by on May 18, 2017 in Autos, Family, Giving Back, Kia | 0 comments

Kia has provided us with a Sorento to drive The reason that I started writing many years ago, was to give back to our community by helping families to learn about fun new ways to create magical memories with their children in Orange County. Along with sharing the best parks, beaches, and dining destinations, it has always been important for me to help support the incredible non-profits in our community that help to make Orange County the best place to live in California. I recently learned that Kia shares the same passion and is deeply rooted in our community by helping to support multiple Orange County non-profits. Kia is a Korean Company, but has their North American headquarters right here in Orange County. They have a beautiful building in Irvine that I’m sure all of you have admired when...

Food + Fun at the Kia Social Club

Posted by on Jul 10, 2016 in Autos, Events, Kia | 0 comments

We attended as a guest of Kia Earlier this month, I went to Los Angeles for some good food and fun at the Thrillist Kia Social Club. When I arrived, there was a line of people that wrapped around the building, and everyone was talking about the excitement of being invited to the exclusive event. The minute that the doors opened, the sound of music flowed out of the doors. The moment that I stepped foot into the social club, I could feel the strong energy in the room. There were multiple tables where LA’s hottest food spots were serving up samples of their delicious eats and a brand-new Kia Sportage that was the center of the attention. Everyone at the event was taking selfies in front of the brand new Sportage that has lights flashing on the car...

Not Your Traditional Mid-Size Vehicle: The Kia Optima SX Turbo

Posted by on Mar 18, 2016 in Autos, Family, Kia | 0 comments

Car provided for review Now that my kids are getting older, it doesn’t make as much sense to be driving a full-size SUV around town. I’ve not only been in the market to downsize my vehicle but also trying to find the best car for my teenage son who will be driving in just a few short years. While on my quest to find the perfect family vehicle that is not an SUV, I recently put the 2016 Kia Optima SX Turbo to the test for a week. When the car arrived, I was immediately in love with the smooth, sleek lines of the body of the car. It was a snow white pearl Optima with a red hot leather interior that matched perfectly with my long blonde curly hair. And it just kept getting better from the moment...

From the Sun to Snow with The 2016 Kia Sorento

Posted by on Dec 27, 2015 in Autos, Family, Kia | 0 comments

The all-new 2016 Kia Sorento is one the best family cars of the year. We recently took the Sorento from the beautiful beach community of Orange County to the snow covered mountains of Yosemite for the Thanksgiving holiday. We had just come back from a couple of days in Mexico building a playground and painting an orphanage, and we had less than 24 hours to pack up the Sorento before making the drive up north to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with family. Since we had just gotten notice the evening before that it was snowing in Yosemite, we rushed to dig out our snow clothes and was able to fit all our snow gear in the Sorento with plenty of room to spare for the three kiddos in the back. The easy to use navigation helped to guide...

Yosemite Lewis Creek Trail to Corlieu Falls

Posted by on Dec 26, 2015 in Kia, Travel, Yosemite | 0 comments

Yosemite is beautiful beyond measure. The only downside is that it can be challenging to find a “child-friendly” trail that is not crowded, and you need to be able to hike a longer distance to enjoy the beauty of the National Park without the crowds. While we were talking to some locals that were visiting Tenaya Lodge for the holiday tree lighting, they had recommended that we stop at Lewis Creek Trail on our way home to see Corlieu Falls. The trail was at a lower elevation, so we didn’t have to worry about there being too much ice on the trail, and there was plenty of parking at the turn-out. We parked the 2016 Kia Sorento that we drove to Yosemite, and embarked on our favorite hike of our visit to Yosemite National Park. The beginning of...

Ultimate Family Luxury Minivan: The 2015 Kia Sedona

Posted by on Nov 5, 2015 in Autos, Family, Featured, Kia | 0 comments

Review vehicle provided I have driven many minivans during my past 13 years of parenthood, and none of them compare to the Kia Sedona that I recently drove for a week. I have heard my good friend, Naz, talk forever about how much she loves her Kia Sedona, and I quickly learned why she loves it so much when I first got behind the wheel. It wasn’t just me that fell in love with the Sedona but also my children. From the dual sunroofs to the lounging captains chairs, the kids were begging me to trade in my full-size SUV so they can cruise around town in a Sedona. Kia is clearly the leader in the industry when it comes to technology, and the Sedona has everything that parents could want out of a minivan. The navigation is simple...

Fun for the Whole Family at the OC Auto Show

Posted by on Oct 17, 2015 in Autos, Events, Family, Featured, Kia | 0 comments

Sponsored The OC Auto Show is happening at the Anaheim Convention Center all weekend. The Auto Show isn’t just for adults and is the perfect family weekend outing. This year, there are hundreds of cars, a child scavenger hunt, and test drive opportunities. We brought our family to the first day of the Auto Show in search of a new family car. Instead of having to drive our family from dealer lot to dealer lot, we were able to look at every auto manufactures car all in one place, and even test drive a couple of cars that we showed an added interest in possibly purchasing this year. Our kids put the different cars to the test as they jumped into the seats of the cars in search of the most comfortable family vehicle. There was one brand that...

Road Tripping with the 2014 Kia Optima SX LTD

Posted by on Jun 2, 2014 in Autos, Family, Featured, Kia | 0 comments

Courtesy car provided When planning our pre-summer getaway in Palm Springs, I wanted to travel in comfort, so we hit the road in the 2014 Kia Optima SX LTD. This was the first time that my family of five has traveled in anything smaller than a mid-sized SUV, and the car more than exceeded the needs of our family on a long road trip. In the backseat of the car, I was able to fit a booster seat and two pre-teens comfortably. There was plenty of arm and leg room that kept the kids from quarreling along the way. In fact, I was even able to recline the front passenger seat to take a snooze without impacting the kids in the back! I was not the only passenger in the car who took a snooze while driving to Palm...

Mid Size SUV with Full Size SUV Amenities

Posted by on Apr 15, 2014 in Autos, Family, Featured, Kia | 0 comments

After having children, I only wanted the largest car on the road. A car that I felt could handle all the needs of our busy lifestyle, but also be the safest on the road. I’ve been driving my full-size SUV around the hilly Orange County community for the past five years, and being impacted with the huge expense of driving such a large vehicle so frequently. We go through brakes at least every three months, and I can never get out of the gas station for under $130 a fill-up. Did I mention that I fill-up 2-3 times a week? That’s what happens when you are driving three kids all around town to their various activities. With the cost of driving our large size SUV impacting our family budget and the concern about the harm, we are doing...

While driving a compact sedan that was so fun to drive, we could not wait to take  it out to enjoy a day packed with family fun. With the large trunk space, we were able to pack everything that we needed for a day filled with hiking, swimming and adventure. The compact sedan offers families plenty of room with its large legroom, headroom and hiproom. With my family of five all being very tall, finding a compact sedan with enough interior room has always been challenging until discovering the Kia Forte. The stylish car packs plenty of punch with its high performing engine under the hood. While the car has plenty of horsepower to get your family where you need...

Choosing Your Teen’s First Car

Posted by on Aug 7, 2013 in Autos, Kia | 0 comments

We were provided with a test vehicle from Kia. I am just five years away from purchasing my oldest sons first car, and choosing a first car for my teen is one of the most important purchases that my husband and I will make. Safety is one of the biggest features we are looking at in a car, but we are also concerned about finding an economy and environmentally friendly car for him. We have fond memories of driving our hatch back cars loaded with college gear after high school, and a fuel economy car was the #1 priority for us as young adults. Since we are hoping for his first car to last him through College, the 2013 Kia Rio SX, is a car that we have spent researching for his first car. We took a 2013 Kia...

Family Friendly Features of the 2013 Kia Sportage

Posted by on Jun 27, 2013 in Autos, Featured, Kia | 0 comments

We were provided with a Kia to review on behalf on Kia. With three kids, a 100 pound golden retriever, bikes and golf clubs, we have always thought we needed the biggest SUV on the road until driving the 2013 Kia Sportage. When the cherry red car arrived at my house last week, I was curious to see if this midsize SUV could handle my large family, and boy was I surprised. The 2013 Kia Sportage has multiple family friendly features. Safety is at the top of the features with dual front advances airbags, front seat mounted airbags and full-length side curtain airbags. In the event of an accident, my entire family would be protected by airbags in the Kia Sportage. The safety features don’t stop with surrounding airbags but also includes anti-lock breaks, traction control system, electronic stability...
