Best Burger in Pasadena: Pie-n-Burger

Posted by on Aug 17, 2017 in Dining, Kia, Pasadena, Travel | 0 comments

We dined as a guest Did you know that Pasadena is where the burger was invented? When I learned this fun fact, I knew that our first meal on a staycation in Pasadena had to be at the popular burger joint, Pie-n-Burger. Pie-n-Burger is located right in the heart of downtown Pasadena. We drove our Kia Sorento to the restaurant, parked on the street, and then went into the historic building for lunch. Inside the small building is a long bar where people were enjoying delicious burgers and creamy milkshakes. Because it is one of the most popular dining destinations in the area, there was a short wait for chairs at the bar when we first arrived. There is a giant menu on the wall of the restaurant, so my kids were able to decide what they wanted to...

The World’s Tallest Thermometer

Posted by on Aug 3, 2017 in Kia, Las Vegas, Road Trips, Travel | 0 comments

Vehicle provided on behalf of Kia One of our favorite things to do while on our way to Las Vegas is to make a stop at the World’s Tallest Thermometer in Baker California. It only takes a few minutes out of your road trip, and the stop is a must. The town of Baker is a great place to get a refreshing drink at The Mad Greek Cafe and stock up on some alien jerky before checking out how HOT it is in the middle of the desert at the world’s tallest thermometer. Once our kids and luggage get loaded into our Kia Sorento, I always ask the kids how hot they think it might be by the time we reach the world’s tallest thermometer. All of the kids make their guesses, and I bring a small prize along...

Summer Fun at Tenaya Lodge

Posted by on Aug 1, 2017 in Kia, Travel, Yosemite | 0 comments

We visited as a guest of the venue Tenaya Lodge is our favorite place to create family memories. We have visited many times during the winter months and had yet to visit during the summer until recently. While on a weekend getaway to Yosemite, we drove our Kia Sorento to Tenaya Lodge to enjoy some of their fun summer activities. We started our day at Tenaya by having lunch and swimming in their large pool. Tenaya has a beautiful pool area complete with a family pool, adult pool, and toddler pool. It is nice and spread out so that families don’t feel cramped when visiting during the peak summer months. After getting settled in our cabana for the day, the server came over to take our lunch order. There are a wide variety of drink and food options at...

Desert Roadside Attraction: Alien Fresh Jerky

Posted by on Jul 31, 2017 in Kia, Las Vegas, Road Trips, Travel | 0 comments

Vehicle provided on behalf of Kia We have traveled from Orange County to Las Vegas an endless amount of times, and the most we have done in Baker is stop for gas or a refreshment. On a recent road trip that I did with the kids, we wanted to see some new things, and that included a stop at the famous roadside attraction, Alien Fresh Jerky. Whenever we are driving through the desert, my kids are always obsessing about aliens. When I told them we were going to stop for some alien jerky, they were ecstatic. We first got some milkshakes at The Mad Greek Cafe and then drove down the street to Alien Fresh Jerky. The building was currently under construction, and they are in the process of building an alien hotel in the back! It was clear...

Cool Down from the Desert Sun at The Mad Greek

Posted by on Jul 27, 2017 in Kia, Las Vegas, Road Trips, Travel | 0 comments

Vehicle provided on behalf of Kia After stopping at Zzyzx Road on our epic OC to Vegas road trip, the kids were in the mood for a refreshing treat. In the past, our family would always stop for a milkshake at The Bun Boy, but since they have gone out of business, we decided to try The Mad Greek instead. We arrived just before dusk, and the area was busy with families fueling up their cars with gas, getting some alien jerky, and grabbing a bite before getting back on the road. I pulled our Kia Sorento into the parking lot of The Mad Greek, and we made a dash from the air conditioned car into the air conditioned restaurant – it was about 120 degrees at the time! As we walked into the restaurant, the kids were enjoying...

Western American Railroad Museum

Posted by on Jul 26, 2017 in Featured, Kia, Las Vegas, Road Trips, Travel | 0 comments

Vehicle provided on behalf of Kia Every kid loves trains. Ever since my boys were toddlers, they have loved everything about trains, and that love never seemed to end as they have gotten older. While planning our OC to Las Vegas road trip, I was looking for some new places to explore, and the Western American Railroad Museum came up on my radar. I had never heard of it before, and it is located in Barstow (just a quick stop on our way to Vegas), so I made plans to bring the kids to visit it. When we arrived at the railroad museum in our Kia Sorento, my boys squealed with delight. Outside of the museum were multiple train cars just waiting for my boys to explore. By the time that we had reached the museum, it was right...

Explore Rock Faces in the Mojave Desert

Posted by on Jul 25, 2017 in Autos, Kia, Las Vegas, Mojave Desert, Road Trips, Travel | 0 comments

Vehicle provided on behalf of Kia Before leaving for our road trip from Orange County to Las Vegas, we had all our stops planned. Everything was perfectly timed so that we would have enough time to see everything we wanted before arriving in Vegas. While I was driving, my daughter noticed something online that caught her attention – Rock Faces. She immediately plugged the location into the GPS in our Kia Sorento, and we learned that it was along our route. Little did we know at the time that it was going to be an adventure we would remember forever. The GPS took us off the highway and into the heart of the Mojave desert in Victorville, and it told us to start driving along a dirt road. Keep in mind that I was traveling alone with my three...

Las Vegas’ Seven Magic Mountains

Posted by on Jul 21, 2017 in Autos, Kia, Las Vegas, Travel | 0 comments

Vehicle provided by Kia While on our road trip from Orange County to Las Vegas, one stop that we couldn’t miss was seeing Seven Magic Mountains created by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone. Pictures of the colorful rock towers have been all over Instagram this summer, but there is nothing better than seeing the artwork in real life. We had made many stops along our way to Las Vegas and didn’t arrive at the Seven Magic Mountains until dusk. It ended up being the perfect time to visit the popular Las Vegas desert hot spot because there were hardly any visitors there. The art sculptures are located off a paved road just a couple of miles outside of Las Vegas. My cellular service was not giving me a good signal in the desert, so I used the GPS on our...

Route 66: Elmer’s Bottle Tree Ranch

Posted by on Jul 7, 2017 in Autos, Kia, Las Vegas, Road Trips, Travel | 0 comments

Vehicle provided on behalf of Kia Every time that we go to Las Vegas, we are always in a rush to get to the city to have some fun. This summer, I took the kids by myself to Zion National Park, and we made a quick stop in Las Vegas. Since I was traveling without my husband, I decided to take my time getting to Las Vegas and explore some stops along the small strip of Route 66 that was just a short detour on our way to Las Vegas. One of our favorite stops along Route 66 was Elmer’s Bottle Tree Ranch! The small area of Route 66 between OC and Vegas adds about an hour to your road trip (depending on how many times you want to stop and take cool pictures). Elmer’s Bottle Tree Ranch is...

Abandoned Town: Zzyzx Road

Posted by on Jul 1, 2017 in Autos, Kia, Las Vegas, Road Trips, Travel | 0 comments

Vehicle provided by Kia We’ve all driven by the Zzyzx road sign on the way to Vegas, and I’ve always been curious about what is at the end of the road in the middle of nowhere. While on a summer road trip from OC to Vegas, I finally took the time to pull off the freeway to explore the abandoned town at the end of this famous road. As we drove down the road, I was glad that I was driving our AWD Kia Sorento because most of the road is not paved. As a mom, I’m not used to driving on dirt roads, and when I was on the dirt road, the Sorento handled just as well as it does on paved roads. We made our way down the windy road and took a moment to stop and...

Edward Scissorhands House in San Diego

Posted by on Jun 19, 2017 in Autos, Cool Places, Kia, San Diego, Travel | 0 comments

I visited San Diego as a guest of Kia While in San Diego learning about Kia’s ecoDynamics technology, I was given the opportunity to drive a beautiful 2017 Kia Soul EV around town. I got to explore the town with one of my best friends who shares a love for discovering unique and funky places. After I took her to see the skeleton house in San Diego, she then surprised me by bringing me to the Edward Scissorhands House (Harper’s Topiary Garden). We rocked out to our favorite tunes in the hip 2017 Kia Soul EV and felt the cool ocean breezes flowing in from the sunroof. We drove to one of the highest points of downtown San Diego, and there it was – one of the coolest front yards I have ever seen. The house sits on top...

San Diego Skeleton House

Posted by on Jun 16, 2017 in Autos, Kia, San Diego, Travel | 0 comments

We visited San Diego as a guest of Kia Whenever I visit a city, I’m always on the hunt to find a new funky and quirky spot to visit. When on a recent trip to San Diego to experience Kia’s ecoDynamics technology, I made plans to visit the San Diego skeleton house for the first time. I did some research to try and find the location, and I didn’t find very much published about the house. I was lucky to find the name of the street in one of my favorite road trip apps, so I added a stop to my travel itinerary. Along with my friend, we drove a hip 2017 Kia Soul EV to find the skeleton house. When we started to drive down the street in search of the house, it’s didn’t take long to spot...

How Kia Earned Their Way to Become Number One

Posted by on Jun 12, 2017 in Autos, Family, Kia | 0 comments

I have a partnership with Kia It has been a little over a month since I have swapped my 2017 Mercedes GLS 450 for a 2017 Kia Sorento SXL, and I don’t ever want to go back. The few short weeks that I have been driving a Kia I have realized that Kia is just as good, and in my opinion even better than most luxury cars that I have driven in the past. It is comfortable, luxurious, and has every feature that our family could want in a vehicle. Last week, I went to San Diego to spend a couple of days learning more about the Kia brand. Why San Diego? Music is at the heart of San Diego and is also part of Kia’s DNA – music is the soul of Kia. Just like music evokes an...

The Bodyguard the Musical Delivers an Epic Performance

Posted by on Jun 2, 2017 in Autos, Entertainment, Kia, Theatre | 0 comments

We visited as a guest of the venue/vehicle provided by Kia I have grown up going on a regular basis to see performances at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. The creativity of the artists I have watched perform over the years made me fall in love with the arts, and then become an integrated arts student at the Orange County School of the Arts. Every time that I see a performance at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, I am blown away, especially when seeing The Bodyguard the Musical. We went to see the performance earlier in the week, and I didn’t know what to expect. I knew that the film which the musical is based on was one of my mom’s favorite movies as a teenager, and so I knew that it was going to be something...

Fun and Funky Art at Tio’s Tacos

Posted by on Jun 1, 2017 in Autos, Cool Places, Dining, Kia | 0 comments

Vehicle provided by Kia I’ve seen pictures of the funky artwork at Tio’s Tacos on Instagram for many years. When planning a day trip to visit the California Citrus State Historic Park with my daughter in Riverside, I made sure to add to our itinerary a stop at Tito’s Tacos for lunch. Many of my friends who have been to Tio’s recommended that we do not go during the lunch or dinner rush. It is a popular place, and there is often a line that wraps around the building to order food. Thanks to my friend’s recommendations, we arrived around two o’clock, and practically had the place all to ourselves. The restaurant is an Instagrammers dream! I parked our Kia Sorento right under a giant skeleton sculpture riding a bicycle, and then we spent over an hour walking around....

Explore Randsburg Ghost Town

Posted by on May 31, 2017 in Autos, Cool Places, Kia | 0 comments

Vehicle provided by Kia My favorite thing to do with my kids is to explore hidden gems and quirky places. I am ‘that mom’ who will drive thirty minutes out of our way just to see the world’s largest buckle. I have found that exploring quirky and fun places with my kids have made for some unforgettable memories that we love to reminisce about from time to time. For Mother’s Day, I wanted to go hiking with my family at Red Rock Canyon California State Park. When doing some research on how to find the State Park, I realized that Randsburg Ghost Town was on our route, and I immediately got excited about bringing the kids to see a real ghost town. We spent the morning hiking around Red Rock Canyon California State Park, and then put Randsburg Ghost...

Red Rock Canyon California State Park

Posted by on May 26, 2017 in Autos, California State Parks, Featured, Kia, Travel | 0 comments

Vehicle provided by Kia One of my goals this summer is to take my kids to visit as many California State Parks as possible. One of the California State Parks that has been on my bucket list to visit for many years is the Red Rock Canyon California State Park – not to be mistaken with the Red Rock State Park in Nevada. Before packing up the Kia Sorento with everything that we needed for our weekend adventure, I tried to do some research about the park online. I could hardly find any information about it online, so we just jumped into the Sorento, and went exploring. The California State Park is only an hour and a half outside of Los Angeles, making it the perfect day trip. We left early in the morning, and within a couple of...

Tips for Successful Raised Bed Gardening

Posted by on May 22, 2017 in Autos, Gardening, Green Living, Kia | 1 comment

Sponsored in partnership with Kia When my oldest son developed severe food allergies, I turned to food to help heal his overactive immune system. I found that by feeding him a plant-based diet with all organic produce that his allergies decreased, and he had fewer anaphylaxis reactions to food. The only downside was that feeding a family of five a diet rich with organic food was very costly, but I wasn’t going to let that stop me. I went to The Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano and got information on how to start growing organic produce for my family in our backyard. I had my husband tear out most of our grass in the backyard, build raised beds, and we got started on what we now call “The Barone Farm.” Over the years, I have successfully been able...

An Auto Manufacturer Deeply Rooted in our Community

Posted by on May 18, 2017 in Autos, Family, Giving Back, Kia | 0 comments

Kia has provided us with a Sorento to drive The reason that I started writing many years ago, was to give back to our community by helping families to learn about fun new ways to create magical memories with their children in Orange County. Along with sharing the best parks, beaches, and dining destinations, it has always been important for me to help support the incredible non-profits in our community that help to make Orange County the best place to live in California. I recently learned that Kia shares the same passion and is deeply rooted in our community by helping to support multiple Orange County non-profits. Kia is a Korean Company, but has their North American headquarters right here in Orange County. They have a beautiful building in Irvine that I’m sure all of you have admired when...
