Celebrating Spring at Farmhouse Restaurant

Posted by on Jun 21, 2017 in Dining, Uncategorized | 0 comments

We dined as a guest of the venue I don’t know about you, but for me the luxury of living in an area with weather that permits year round outdoor dining is one of my favorite things about living in Orange County. And judging by the wait time to get a seat at the relatively new, Farmhouse at Roger’s Garden, I am not alone in this sentiment. Since its opening last year, I’ve had an increasingly difficult time getting in to this, one of my favorite new spots. With lines for bar seating and long lead times for reservations, I consider it a real treat when I do get to dine here. So, when invited to a preview of Chef Rich Mead’s new Spring Menu, there was no way I was not going. There’s a reason for this. Farmhouse,...

Did Someone say Doughnut? Voodoo Doughnuts Opens in Los Angeles

Posted by on Jun 2, 2017 in Dining, Universal Studios Hollywood | 0 comments

We visited as a guest of the venue Today, June 2nd is National Doughnut Day. But down at Universal City Walk, Doughnut Day is EVERYDAY!! Just adjacent to Universal Studios Hollywood, Voodoo Doughnuts has just opened and is filled with some of the most fabulous doughnuts you have ever tasted, and seen. This new little shop fits right on the walk with its vibrant colors, original doughnuts and its giant Voodoo doll doughnut statue standing nearly 12 feet tall in front. The statue, of course, was my girls’ favorite part, mostly because they have a matching doughnut that is a replica of the giant one standing outside the store. As guests of Voodoo Doughnuts, we were able to sneak some tastes of the amazing doughnuts that filled the store with its aroma. Elle grabbed the most colorful sprinkled cake...

Fun and Funky Art at Tio’s Tacos

Posted by on Jun 1, 2017 in Autos, Cool Places, Dining, Kia | 0 comments

Vehicle provided by Kia I’ve seen pictures of the funky artwork at Tio’s Tacos on Instagram for many years. When planning a day trip to visit the California Citrus State Historic Park with my daughter in Riverside, I made sure to add to our itinerary a stop at Tito’s Tacos for lunch. Many of my friends who have been to Tio’s recommended that we do not go during the lunch or dinner rush. It is a popular place, and there is often a line that wraps around the building to order food. Thanks to my friend’s recommendations, we arrived around two o’clock, and practically had the place all to ourselves. The restaurant is an Instagrammers dream! I parked our Kia Sorento right under a giant skeleton sculpture riding a bicycle, and then we spent over an hour walking around....

A Healthy Twist on Mexican Food at Taco Mesa

Posted by on May 22, 2017 in Dining, Family | 0 comments

We dined as a guest of the venue I could eat Mexican food every night of the week. Unfortunately, most Mexican restaurants in Orange County do not offer a good selection of healthier menu options, until now. Taco Mesa is redefining Mexican food by opening a tortilla factory at Taco Mesa – Tortillería Orgánica & Café in Orange which makes GMO-free tortillas for all six of their restaurant locations in Orange County. When I learned about the innovative tortilla factory that founder and chef of Taco Mesa and Taco Rosa, Ivan Calderon, had created, I couldn’t wait to come in for dinner. My daughter and I went to the Orange location for dinner one night last week, and the restaurant was packed. The entire restaurant was filled with families enjoying healthy and authentic Mexican classic cuisine in the chic...

Mother’s Day at Mimi’s Cafe

Posted by on May 11, 2017 in Dining, Mother's Day | 0 comments

We dined as a guest of the venue There are so many choices when it comes to dining out on Mother’s Day. This year, we celebrated Mother’s Day a little early by having a three-course meal at our local Mimi’s Cafe. I first fell in love with Mimi’s Cafe at a young age when my grandparents would take me out for dinner at Mimi’s to celebrate special occasions. As the years have passed, and my grandparents are no longer here to celebrate with me, it makes me feel closer to them by bringing my family to dine at their favorite restaurant. It makes my heart happy to know that I created so many special memories at Mimi’s Cafe, and I now get to create new memories with my children at this special dining destination. For Mother’s Day, Mimi’s Cafe...

Celebrate Mother’s Day at Sea

Posted by on May 8, 2017 in Dining, Holiday, Mother's Day | 0 comments

We dined as a guest of the venue One of my favorite ways to celebrate Mother’s Day is being close to the ocean. This year, my husband gave me the gift of taking me out for a romantic Hornblower dinner cruise in Newport Harbor, and it was one of the best Mother’s Day gifts I have ever received. We had recently gone on a Hornblower brunch cruise, and my husband knew how much I enjoyed that afternoon. Last weekend, he told me to get dressed up, and we were going out somewhere special to celebrate Mother’s Day. The minute that we arrived at the Hornblower dock in Newport Beach, I was overwhelmed with delight. I couldn’t wait to experience Hornblower at night. We walked up to the boat where the staff took a commemorative photo, and the captain welcomed...

Authentic Mexican Cuisine at Olamendi’s Dana Point

Posted by on May 3, 2017 in Dining, Staycation, Travel | 0 comments

We stayed as a guest of the resort mentioned One of our favorite places to get quick and delicious Mexican food in Orange County is at Olamendi’s. Olamendi’s is located in Dana Point right across from the beach, and was once a favorite dining spot of Richard Nixon. While on a recent staycation at the DoubleTree Suites in Doheny Beach, our family went sailing in Dana Point Harbor and then walked from our resort to Olamendi’s for lunch. The kids love the festive vibe of Olamendi’s Dana Point and always play a game of ISpy while we are dining in the restaurant. There is so much for the kids to see in the restaurant that it keeps them entertained so my husband and I can enjoy some quality time talking without being interrupted by the kiddos. After a long...

Sunset Cocktails at MoQUILA Agave Lounge

Posted by on May 2, 2017 in Dining, Staycation, Travel | 0 comments

We stayed as a guest of the venue While staying at the DoubleTree Doheny Beach, my husband and I enjoyed some romantic time before taking the kids to dinner, watching the sunset at MoQUILA Agave Lounge. The lounge is one of the best-kept secrets in Orange County because it is not super busy on a Friday or Saturday night and offers couples beautiful views of the sunset over the crystalline waters of Doheny Beach. Both nights that we stayed at the DoubleTree Doheny Beach, my husband and I had cocktails at MoQUILA Agave Lounge during the sunset before taking the kids to dinner. The lounge features bar seating right along the edge of the roof, high top tables, couches and a large fire pit in the center. There was plenty of seating for couples, and it never felt crowded...

Clean Cuisine at Coastal Kitchen in Dana Point

Posted by on Apr 27, 2017 in Dining | 0 comments

We dined as a guest All of my friends have been raving about Coastal Kitchen in Dana Point, so when I was making plans for our family seaside staycation at the DoubleTree Suites Doheny Beach, I also made reservations for us to have dinner at Coastal Kitchen. After a long day of endless fun in the sun, our children had worked up a big appetite. We got into the car and made the short drive from our hotel to the restaurant. When we arrived at the restaurant, I was in awe of how beautiful it looked. There is a large outdoor patio and a fire pit with androck chairs by the front door – the only thing missing was some marshmallows to roast. The inside of the restaurant is even more beautiful than the outside. The entire interior has...

We dined as a guest of the venue When checking into the DoubleTree Suites in Doheny Beach, I noticed the chic restaurant off to the side of the lobby. I took a peek at the menu and immediately knew that I wanted to have dinner with the family one night during our seaside staycation. After a fun day creating family memories at the beach, we returned to the hotel to have dinner at Doheny Surf. The restaurant has a coastal design that is perfect for families to enjoy an intimate dinner together. The one thing that I noticed in the restaurant is that they have a wood fire pizza oven which is rare to find in a hotel restaurant. The menu had a wide variety of culinary options making it easy for everyone in my family to find something...

Taste of Aloha at Island’s Restaurant

Posted by on Apr 19, 2017 in Dining | 0 comments

We dined as a guest Island’s is one of our go-to family restaurants. They always have something for everyone in the family to enjoy, provides a relaxing dining environment, and the service is always impeccable. Some of our favorite dishes to enjoy at Island’s Restaurant features sweet pineapple. While savoring a delicious dish with pineapples, it always makes us reminisce about our favorite Hawaiian memories. Did you know that Island’s uses 182,000 fresh pineapples per year? That is a lot of pineapples, and something worth celebrating! In celebration of pineapple season, Island’s has launched a tasty pineapple pairing menu that matches their pineapple menu items with the perfect tropical drink. When our family heard about the new pairing menu, we made plans to have dinner together at our local Island’s Restaurant. Shortly after being seated at our table, the...

Monterey’s Fish House

Posted by on Apr 17, 2017 in Dining, Monterey, Travel | 0 comments

After a long drive from Orange County to Monterey, we settled into our room at the Monterey Tides Resort, and then looked online for somewhere to get dinner. There are so many choices when it comes to dining in Monterey, and one restaurant that stood out to us among the rest was the Monterey’s Fish House. Little did we realize that we picked Monterey’s most popular restaurant to go for dinner. We arrived at the restaurant close to 8 pm on a Thursday, and there was a line of people that wrapped around the side of the building. We took our place in line and waited for a table at the highly acclaimed restaurant. Once we got a table, the service was phenomenal. We got a small table in the back of the restaurant and had one of...

Tonita’s Mexican Food in San Luis Obispo

There is nothing I love more than authentic Mexican Food. While on our recent road trip to Monterey, we made a quick stop in San Luis Obispo to look at Bubblegum Alley and to have lunch. When we arrived in town, there were endless choices of places where we could stop for lunch, but it was a small taco shop on the corner that caught our eye, and we had one of the best lunches at Tonita’s Mexican Food. The restaurant is a small building that has a large outdoor patio with a beautiful view of lush plants and trees. We were a little deceived at first because the Yelp app was advising that the restaurant was closed, but when we turned the knob on the front door, there was a lovely lady at the counter ready to...

We dined as a guest of the venue We had the chance to visit Sapphire in Laguna Beach this past week for an unforgettable evening sampling of a few of their delicious menu items. Sapphire is about to celebrate their 10th Anniversary! We’ve been to many restaurants in the local area. However, this was my first time visiting Sapphire Laguna. Chef Azmin is a world explorer in the kitchen sharing a variety of spices and flavors from around the world, and with all of us! We loved the immersion of different cultures within the small bites placed before us. The evening was full of one delicious surprise after another. We were provided with an array of samplings including Shrimp & Pork Steamed Wontons with Chili Oil – one of my favorites. I can’t forget about the Shrimp Warka; a...
