Best Local Food in Turks and Caicos: Kalooki’s

Posted by on Nov 11, 2015 in Travel, Turks and Caicos | 0 comments

When we first arrived at the Turks and Caicos, we were starving. Once we went through customs and got our rental car, we couldn’t wait to sink our taste buds into some delicious local cuisine. We always like to try a local restaurant when traveling, and everyone we asked in the airport about where we should have lunch agreed – Kalooki’s. As we drove up to the beach front restaurant, it was right next to Da Conch Shack. We had heard so many good things about the Conch Shack but stuck to what the locals told us and pulled into Kalooki’s parking lot. We got a table right on the waters edge, and our kids immediately ran down to the beach, tossed their clothes onto the sand, and dove right into the water wearing only their undies. My...

Creative Inspiration from Sesame Street Artist Barry Goldberg at Beaches Turks and Caicos

Posted by on Nov 10, 2015 in Travel, Turks and Caicos | 1 comment

My mom attended the Beaches Social Media on the Sand Conference When I stayed at Beaches Turks and Caicos on of the things I noticed was the creative chalk Sesame Street characters on the sidewalk. While I was walking around the resort with my mom, I saw the artist drawing amazing Sesame Street characters. What are the odds of that? Totally seeing a famous Sesame Street artist drawing on the sidewalk of a Beaches Resort! I walked over, and he asked me if I wanted to help? I was like ” I’d love to.” I got to work while other kids joined and started drawing Sesame Street characters too. When I got home, I found out that his name was Barry Goldberg, and he is a Sesame Street artist. A real famous artist. He is an illustrator for Sesame...

Top Three Tween Favorites at the Beaches Turks and Caicos Water Park

Posted by on Nov 10, 2015 in Travel, Turks and Caicos | 0 comments

My mom attended the Beaches Social Media on the Sand Conference One of my favorite parts of my stay at Beaches Turks and Caicos was the water park! I had so much fun at the water park while going down the water slides, playing on the boogie boarding simulator, and splashing in the lazy river. I love everything at the water park. Some of the days I was at Beaches I stayed the whole day at the water park. My personal favorite part of the water park is the big slides. They have tubes that you go down the slides on, and I even got to ride the slides with my parents. They have tandem tubes, kids tubes, and adult tubes. I love going down the water slides with my brother over and over again. My favorite water slide...

Long Bay Beach in the Turks and Caicos

Posted by on Nov 9, 2015 in Featured, Travel, Turks and Caicos | 0 comments

We attended the Beaches Social Media on the Sand Conference When exploring Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos by car, Long Bay Beach is one the top beaches to visit with your family. The beach is located on the opposite side of the island from the popular Grace Bay Beach and offers families a much different experience. The only challenge is actually getting to the beach. We quickly found out why this beach is so exclusive to visitors on the island because of the challenge for non-locals to find the public beach access. We were given instructions on how to find the beach from a local on the island, and we set out to spend some time swimming after our hike to “The Hole.” To find the beach, we had to make our way along a dirt road, and...

Family Travel Storytelling with Images

Posted by on Nov 9, 2015 in Travel, Turks and Caicos | 0 comments

We attended the Beaches Social Media on the Sand Conference I love taking pictures. I can’t even count how many times I have filled up my iPhone with images, and then had to start deleted apps so I could take more pictures. Along with taking pictures, I love storytelling with images. One of my favorite outlets to do this is on Instagram. While attending the Beaches Social Media on the Sand Conference at Beaches Turks and Caicos, they invited all attendees to participate in an interactive Instagram photo challenge. With iPhone photography being one of my favorite hobbies (and now exploring GoPro photography), I couldn’t wait to participate but promised myself that I wouldn’t continue with the challenge unless my photos were authentic and still told the story of our travel experience. I enjoyed unleashing my creativity by using...

A Taste of Italy at The Italian Village at Beaches Turks and Caicos

Posted by on Nov 5, 2015 in Travel, Turks and Caicos | 0 comments

We attended the Beaches Social Media on the Sand Conference During our third trip to the Beaches Turks and Caicos Resort, we experienced the Italian Village for the first time. The architecture, colors, and decor made us feel like we were walking through the streets of Italy upon arriving at the resort. The true gem of the Italian Village are the rooms. From marble floors to rich mahogany furniture, the rooms are exquisite, and make families feel comfortable while traveling in the Turks and Caicos. Once we checked into the resort, we were guided to our room by a knowledgeable employee who showed us all the features and comfort of the room before handing us our room key for the week. We stayed in the “Capri Block” of the Italian Village on the 6th floor that offered picturesque ocean...

Gamers Paradise at the Xbox Lounge at Beaches Turks and Caicos

Posted by on Nov 4, 2015 in Tech, Travel, Turks and Caicos | 0 comments

My mom attended the Beaches Social Media on the Sand Conference The Xbox Lounge at Beaches Turks and Caicos is really cool! I liked it a lot! The reason I like it so much is because of all of all the Xboxes lined up in one cool room. Each Xbox has a different game on it (Except for Madden NFL! There are 2 of them). The one thing that sold me on the Xbox Lounge being one of the coolest places at the resort is that they have a Bobby Dee’s Restaurant RIGHT NEXT DOOR!!!!! Whenever I was in the lounge, I would not play alone. I had made some friends while I was there and every day at eight o’clock we would meet up at the Xbox lounge and play. We made good memories there. We really did!...

Barefoot by the Sea at Beaches Turks and Caicos

Posted by on Nov 3, 2015 in Travel, Turks and Caicos | 0 comments

We attended the Beaches Social Media on the Sand Conference Our favorite family restaurant when staying at Beaches Turks and Caicos has always been Barefoot by the Sea. The restaurant is located right on the waterfront where families can dine on delicious cuisine while digging their toes into the warm white sand. The restaurant has a relaxed feel with mahogany picnic tables and sandy floors but with an elevated cuisine. During our recent stay at the resort, our family dined at Barefoot many times with breakfast and lunch offering favorite dishes. Barefoot was our first meal upon arriving at the resort where we had the best lunch to kick-off our stay. We were greeted by friendly staff who came with a glass of bubbling champagne and a menu to select what we felt like enjoying for lunch. We began...

Ultimate Tween Foam Party at Beaches Resorts

Posted by on Nov 2, 2015 in Travel, Turks and Caicos | 0 comments

My mom attended the Beaches Social Media on the Sand Conference When I was at Beaches Turks and Caicos, I attended the teen and tween foam party. It was so fun! I had a blast meeting new friends and running through the foam. The Foam Party was probably my favorite memory from the Turks and Caicos. The music and lights were so perfect while we ran through the foam together. While I was having fun running through the foam, my brother was at the Xbox Lounge, which sounded pretty cool too, but we all agreed that the foam party was the best. The Foam Party is right on the beach so once you are covered head to toe with foam you can wash off in the warm water at the beach. The foam was so high. It was almost...

Pizza by the Sea at Bella Napoli Pizzeria in the Turks and Caicos

Posted by on Nov 2, 2015 in Dining, Travel, Turks and Caicos | 0 comments

We attended the Beaches Social Media on the Sand Conference One of the popular lunch destinations at Beaches Turks and Caicos is Bella Napoli Pizzeria. The restaurant features a real wood burning pizza oven where pizza creations are made fresh to order. Families will come up from the beach to order pizza to-go or dine al fresco on their outdoor patio. After spending the morning in a conference session, I joined my family for lunch at Bella Napoli. We took our seat at one of the outdoor dining tables where my kids sipped on their favorite smoothies while we decided what to order for lunch. It was no surprise that the kids decided to order the cheese lovers pizza featuring mozzarella, smoked gouda, cheddar, and parmesan. The pizzas were the perfect size to satisfy their hunger and to give...

Sky Restaurant at Beaches Turks and Caicos

Posted by on Oct 31, 2015 in Dining, Family, Travel, Turks and Caicos | 0 comments

We attended the Beaches Social Media on the Sand Conference Last year when we visited Beaches Turks and Caicos, the resort was in the process of building the all-new restaurant, Sky. After a couple of rainy days on the island, my daughter and I woke up early and went to have breakfast together at Sky Restaurant. The restaurant is a rooftop restaurant, and we got a table right on the edge of the building with beautiful views of the turquoise waters below. I sipped on my cup of coffee while spending quality one-on-one time with my beautiful daughter. We began our dining experience with a plate of fresh fruit where every bite exploded with the fresh flavors of the island. Whenever I am dining out for breakfast and spot eggs Benedict on the menu, I can never resist from...

Best Hike in the Turks and Caicos: The Hole

Posted by on Oct 29, 2015 in Travel, Turks and Caicos | 0 comments

We attended the Beaches Social Media on the Sand Conference One of our favorite things to do with our children when traveling is to go hiking. Getting close to nature while exploring is one of the best ways that children can fully connect their mind, body and soul with the place that they are visiting. When doing some research on our recent trip to the Turks & Caicos, I was having trouble finding any good hiking recommendations for young children on the island. It wasn’t until we arrived at the island that our server at Kalooki’s recommended taking them hiking to “The Hole.” Finding The Hole was not as hard as we had expected, and parents can make the hike as long or as short as they want to depend on where they park their car along the dirt...

Undiscovered Taylor Bay in the Turks and Caicos

Posted by on Oct 28, 2015 in Featured, Travel, Turks and Caicos | 1 comment

We attended the Beaches Social Media on the Sand Conference While exploring Providenciales in the Turks & Caicos, we were in search of the “perfect beach.” While Grace Bay is well-known for being the best beach on the island, we were looking for something a little more private, and with calmer waves for younger children to frolic and play in the crystalline turquoise waters. When we first arrived on the island, we asked a couple of locals where we could find a beach like this, and they all said the same thing – Taylor Bay. The day that we set out to explore Taylor Bay Beach, we were not having ideal beach weather on the island. There was a threat of thunderstorms, but we didn’t let that stop us from jumping into our rental car to explore. As we...

Tween Volunteer Vacation Experience with the Sandals Foundation

Posted by on Oct 26, 2015 in Events, Family, Featured, Giving Back, Travel, Turks and Caicos | 2 comments

My mom attended the Beaches Social Media on the Sand Conference When I was at Beaches Turks and Caicos, I really wanted to volunteer my time with the Sandals Foundation. Along with a group of teens, I went to a local school that the Sandals Foundation sponsored and painted a classroom. It was amazing! I felt so good that we could help kids that are less fortunate than us feel comfortable in their classroom. I was so happy that I was giving back to the community while on my family vacation. It touched my heart that I was helping local kids that I had seen walking along the side of the road while exploring the island. I love helping people, and this was my ultimate vacation experience. I love thinking about how happy the kids will feel once they...

Turks and Caicos Dream Tours Private Charter

Posted by on Oct 23, 2014 in Travel, Turks and Caicos | 2 comments

After spending the day doing a Turks and Caicos Dream Tours 1/2 day group charter, we found that the experience was not like it was back in 2008. Since the group was large, we were unable to dive for our own conch and it did not include a visit to Fort St. George Island like we did the last time we visited. Once our 1/2 day charter was done, we talked with the owner and planned a private charter for our family the following day to have the intimate experiences that we had the last time that we traveled to the Turks and Caicos. Our kids had bonded with a couple of the staff members from the charter boat, and they were thrilled when they greeted us the next morning with their boat on the beach in front...

Fort St. George Island (Fort George Cay) Turks and Caicos

Posted by on Oct 23, 2014 in Travel, Turks and Caicos | 2 comments

When planning a trip to the Turks and Caicos, a trip to Fort St. George Island (Fort George Cay) is one the top places to visit. Years ago, when traveling to the Turks and Caicos, we booked a ½ day snorkeling tour. When the boat ran into trouble, and we had to go back to switch boats, the tour company offered us an extended tour that included St. George Island. It was one of the most magical experiences of our trip, and when returning to the Turks and Caicos this past week. The first thing we did upon arrival was attempt to book a 1/2 day charter to the deserted island. When we learned that the 1/2 day charter did not include a visit to Fort St. George Island, we booked a private charter for the following day. From...

Turks and Caicos ½ Day Caicos Dream Tours Group Charter

Posted by on Oct 23, 2014 in Travel, Turks and Caicos | 0 comments

It has been years since we last visited the Turks and Caicos, and the one thing we remembered from our last visit was the epic trip we went on with Caicos Dream Tours. Back in 2008, the company was just starting, and the tours included much more than they do today. Upon arriving in the Turks and Caicos, we visited the concierge to book our trip for the following day on the Caicos Dream Tour Boat to relive the memories again with our children. When we talked to the concierge, we advised him that we wanted to do a conch dive and visit “Sand Dollar Island.” After we had arrived back at our room, there was a message from the concierge advising us to be on the beach to catch our boat a 8:30am. Like clockwork, the boat came...
