Dana Point Staycation at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa

We stayed as a guest of Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa

A vacation doesn’t always have to be reached by an airplane or long road trip, sometimes the best vacations are those we call a staycation.  I checked into the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa, perched on top of the hill over-looking the Dana Point Harbor boasting gorgeous views.  I was impressed with the vintage Woody that welcomes guests upon arrival, and surprised to learn it’s in working order.  The Woody was the perfect accent to give me that relaxed feeling that being near the beach provides.

If you’ve haven’t traveled to Dana Point, its an quick drive from John Wayne Airport and easily accessible from Interstate 5.  Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa recently refurbished 378 guest rooms, plus 15 suites with coastal-inspired designs and casual elegance.

Once my luggage was unloaded by the friendly staff, I entered the open-air lobby.  Upon entering, I couldn’t help but notice the hotel proudly displaying its sponsored elephant from the Dana Point Elephant Parade that helped raise awareness and money to prevent Asian Elephant extinction.

After unpacking, I took the family to explore the expansive beauty from almost every angle of the hotel and discover what fun awaited us our during or stay.   The Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa spans 50,000 square feet, offers two heated outdoor pools both with spectacular vistas.  Kids love the Kahuna Laguna Kids Club and the Splash Zone, complete with rotating surfboards to ride and plenty of water to run through.  The Kahuna Laguna Kids Club is a chance for the grown ups to enjoy some alone time while the kids are completely entertained, a win-win in my book!

The hotel is perfectly located near the harbor with a multitude of activities: SUP, kayaking, whale watching, visiting the Ocean Institute and neighboring tide pools, Lantern Bay Park, the famous stairs that the locals run, Doheny State Beach, miles of bike trails, multiple restaurants within the harbor and more.  Renting bikes and helmets from the hotel provides exercise and the ease of parking while thoroughly enjoying the fresh air and the glorious Dana Point views.  For a full guide to a weekend in Dana Point, click here.  On-site recreation includes yoga classes while local off-site activities include basketball, tennis and volleyball.

Before whisking off to enjoy all that Dana Point has to offer, enjoy a California Cuisine breakfast made with fresh ingredients at the Over Vue Lounge.  The restaurant is a spacious room overlooking the harbor, and if you’re traveling with sports fans, the Over Vue also has large screened TV’s for viewing.  Admittedly, we cheered on TEAM USA in the World Cup during our visit.  I highly recommend the breakfast quesadilla filled with cheesy eggs and hash browns topped with avocado and served with a zesty salsa, Ole! Or, healthy omelet options are always a great choice.
