Did Someone say Doughnut? Voodoo Doughnuts Opens in Los Angeles

We visited as a guest of the venue

Today, June 2nd is National Doughnut Day. But down at Universal City Walk, Doughnut Day is EVERYDAY!!

Just adjacent to Universal Studios Hollywood, Voodoo Doughnuts has just opened and is filled with some of the most fabulous doughnuts you have ever tasted, and seen. This new little shop fits right on the walk with its vibrant colors, original doughnuts and its giant Voodoo doll doughnut statue standing nearly 12 feet tall in front. The statue, of course, was my girls’ favorite part, mostly because they have a matching doughnut that is a replica of the giant one standing outside the store.

As guests of Voodoo Doughnuts, we were able to sneak some tastes of the amazing doughnuts that filled the store with its aroma. Elle grabbed the most colorful sprinkled cake doughnut she could find and Claire, well Claire went for size, finding the largest “yeast” doughnut on the platter smothered in light pink icing (actually named “The Homer” doughnut from the character Homer in the Fox classic “The Simpsons.”)

Their cake doughnuts are the traditional kind you would find in any regular doughnut shop except for they are extremely light and fluffy while still holding on to the true texture of a cake consistency. And the yeast doughnuts are more like a cloud being shoved in your mouth. All delivering the best results in taste and, super hyper children.

Originally from Portland, Oregon, founders Kenneth “Cat Daddy” Pogson and Tres Shannon serve up an eclectic menu of doughnuts as well as their famous first-ever pink Stumptown espresso machine located exclusively at Univeral CityWalk’s Voodoo Doughnut.

The doughnut menu includes anything from your simple sugar doughnut to vegan doughnuts and some others that have been paired with something you’d never think imaginable. Take for instance your “Maple Bacon Bar.” That’s right I said BACON!! It’s a traditional spin on the maple bar topped with smoked maple bacon. It’s amazing!! They also feature a “Loop Doughnut” which is a yeast doughnut with vanilla frosting and Fruit Loops. If you’re a fan of the whole cereal plus doughnut thing they also have some on the menu that is topped with Captain Crunch or Rice Krispies. Need I say more? Check out their website for a full list of all of their wonderful creations they have added to their menu. Elle and Claire decided to stay true to their doughnut nature and loved the sprinkled frosted cake doughnut the best!

And for all of those modern brides out there that are choosing to forgo the cake, Voodoo Doughnuts hosts wedding ceremonies with complete doughnut and coffee catered receptions.
Come on your way to Universal Studios, or just come in for a doughnut and coffee to start off your day. Hours vary, so check the website for open hours. It’s most helpful to park in the Jurassic Park parking structure for quick access to the shop.
And like they say at Voodoo Doughnuts, “Good things come in pink boxes!”
