Discovering Our Inner Beauty at Mindful Her

We were recently invited back to attend another fabulous Mindful Her event at Seven Degrees in Laguna Beach. After wrapping up the holidays it was such a treat to nurture ourselves with this group of lovely ladies, there were a little over 150 of us gathered together. The focus for this day was “The Beauty Within” and we were more than ready to find our inner beauty.

Mindful Her

The event founders, Kelly Lam and Joanne Forster greeted all of us with their contagious, positive energy! We just love these two ladies and we’re sure you will too! The day was sure to expand our knowledge as well as inspire us with such a great line up of guest speakers.

We had the privilege of hearing from six beautiful women, each sharing their areas of specialty paired with ginormous smiles.

Mindful Her Speakers

Megan McCarver, led us on a lovely meditation which was the perfect to begin the day.  We learned a breathing exercise that helped to ground us and set the mood for the day;  with a focus on harmony and expanding our creative energy.  Yes, imagine a large group of women who lead busy lives, suddenly quieting and taking a deep breath to enjoy the day ahead, our shoulders were relaxing at this moment.

We had Lissa Coffey share  information with us about Ayurveda to manage our weight; learning if we were Vata, Pitta or Kapha mind, body type. It’s really interesting and helpful to learn, it has a huge impact on your mind, body health. We’ve changed a few things already and notice a difference.

In between speakers, we were provided with our nourishment of  Acai bowls by Sambazon, lunch from Active Culture with a tasty dinner of sushi by Akioni’s Catering and healthy, happy hour from 35 Maple Street. It’s a treat to attend an event for a day, having everything provided, spending those hours bonding and caring for yourself.

Our afternoon was spent with Cheri Swanon, a nutritionist who was a wealth of knowledge regarding all the food we eat.  She shared with us how our body responds to food and that we really do need to be more mindful of our food choices.  A couple of Cheri’s tips: always eat a fiber, fat and protein together.  If you’re  reading too many labels, you’re eating too many boxed foods and my favorite, “Don’t ever eat anything that doesn’t mold”.  Sure makes you stop and think!

Sarah James shared with us the dangers of our skin care choices with regard to lotions, shampoos, makeup and so many more. How to choose and find the resources for non-toxic items. Wow, this was eye-opening!

Darice at Mindful Her

As we were ending our day, Tawny Avonne shared the best ways to quiet our inner critic and we all have those. Simply by changing the dialogue from the negative critic to a positive one instead is a good way to begin and saying goodbye to others that are not productive in our lives.

Tapasya Bali, the brilliant mind behind YogaSmoga shared her experience in launching a business after leaving Wall Street.  Her story is inspiring as well as her business structure; all her manufacturing takes place in the United States and her employees are  primarily women, 95% of the company. Pretty cool! Right ladies?

We highly suggest you keep your eye on Mindful Her, they have some more events on the calendar for 2016 and we learned about other ideas in the works.  We are so looking forward to more opportunities to share with you about Mindful Her.  Maybe put an event on your wish list for a birthday or Mother’s Day , we have to take care of ourselves before we can take care of others effectively and this is a great way to do so!
