Discovery Cube OC Grand Re-Opening Celebration
We attended as a guest of DSC
Something wonderful has happened at the Discovery Cube OC! They just opened up the new expanded area to the public and my family, and I was invited to join in the fun.
Our day started with a walk down the red carpet at the Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. I must admit this was very exciting as I had never gone to a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony before until now.
For the first hour or so we were able to mingle with the other guests and enjoy a spread of delightful little breakfast appetizers. Once all the guests arrived we were asked to take our seats and the festivities begin.
We first heard from John Adams the President and CEO of the Discovery Cube Orange County. He talked about the original opening and how long they have been working on the expansion.
He also talked about the size of the new expansion that is 44,000 square feet. He talked a little about each new exhibit, and he gave thanks to the kindness of the donors. John also thanked us for coming out to celebrate with them.
He turned over the microphone to other board members. Each told stories about the Discovery Cube and praised its grand new re-opening. After a short while, we heard from The Honorable Mayor of Santa Ana, Miguel Pulido. He talked about the new exhibits and how they fit in with the drought that our community is facing.
Many people spoke even Mr. Todd Spitzer, the Chairman of The Orange County Board of Supervisors.
Once everyone spoke they fed these giant cards displaying what goes into the Discovery Science Center to make it great in a giant test tube. When they started this the test tube started to smoke, fireworks went off, and the balloons dropped. It was how they kicked off the Ribbon Cutting.
Fireworks were bursting over us, and we took some pictures from a drone hovering over us and then we were led inside to view the new expanded area and the amazing new exhibits.
We were also able to go to the International Exhibition of Sherlock Holmes. It is in the new Julianne Argyros Showcase Theater. What an amazing display they have in here. You can walk around and solve a mystery inside. We had fun walking around and learning new facts.
After we went to see the Sherlock exhibit we walked around viewing the Helicopter Tour, The Aquavator, Mission Control and also the Inspector Training course where you discover ways to protect a backyard from invading vectors.
Once we walked around upstairs, we decided to head down to the Bean Sprouts Cafe, which is adorable. We sampled some of their food that was very tasty.
Lastly, we visited the Petersonville Healthy Kitchen where we got to taste some amazing kid-friendly culinary creations. My son loved the hummus with veggies and the fruit pops.
All of these new things in the Discovery Cube are sure to give many kids and adults hours of great learning fun for many years to come.
