Downtown Staycation at the Omni Los Angeles at California Plaza
We stayed as a guest of Omni
If you’ve read my other travel blog posts, you know that I am a huge advocate for traveling with kids and exposing them to as much as possible. One place in particular that I have wanted to introduce my kids to is Los Angeles.
I know you’re probably thinking Los Angeles what does that have to do with travel it’s only 45 minutes away (with no traffic). That’s the amazing thing about LA, it’s only a few miles away and yet it can be a destination for a family vacation. The first thing that I did was research child friendly hotels. Once I narrowed down my search I had to decide on what part of LA to discover. I love history and old LA so for me it wasn’t much of a brainer, Downtown LA would be our family’s first LA vacation.
Omni Los Angeles at California Plaza was the perfect location for what I had in store for my family. Located in the heart of the Art and Music district of downtown this gem of a hotel brought my children closer to the pulse of LA.
We walked into the grand entrance of the Omni and could smell the aroma of their beautiful floral arrangements. We were greeted by the bellman who then escorted us to the front desk.
There at check-in we were greeted by Lauren, who was not only cheerful and warm but also very helpful. While my children were chatting up with her, explaining the purpose for our visit, they were each given a backpacks filled with goodies.
Inside the backpacks, kids will find unique and amusing items including a Twisty Tomato plastic drinking straw (they receive the corresponding colorful plastic travelers’ drinking cup at a hotel’s restaurant), a cartoon matching memory game, washable crayons and a fun-filled activity book packed with games, puzzles, amusements and other diversions. The activity book also includes recipes created by Omni’s Brand Nutritionist, Chef Forberg R.D. Kids and parents alike will find that the savory snack recipes are as much fun to eat as they are to make. Travelers may view Chef Forberg’s recipe for Zoo-licious Trail Mix at Omni’s “Healthy Traveler” video series by visiting www.omnihotels.com/kitchenkids.
Turns out the Omni recently re-launched the Omni Sensational Kids program which caters to their youngest guests. Upon check-in, kids receive a backpack filled with fun items designed specifically for them. Kids also receive milk and cookies delivered to the room on the first night and can request to borrow a rolling backpack full of toys, books and games.
Our backpack Items Include: Discovery map with 32 games, crayons, a silly straw and memory game (which came in handy when we were trying to get ready for dinner). Before we went up to our room we walked over to concierge and asked about the various attractions close by.
I was amazed as to how close we were to so much. Within a two block radius we were next to the Museum of Contemporary Art, Angels Railway, Ahmanson Theater, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Central Library and so much more.
My first thought was photo shoot! My kids weren’t all that excited about those plans but they promised to let me shoot some of the areas and relax on others.
The Omni Los Angeles Hotel at California Plaza’s newly updated 453 non-smoking rooms are decorated in an inviting palette of soft grays, ivories, midnight blues and rich chocolates capturing the elegance of cosmopolitan living enhanced with city views.
While we unpacked, the kids took full advantage of the backpack and started playing memory.
To make stay memorable, the Omni offers an amazing loyalty program. The benefits to joining Select Guest begin as soon as you sign up. Members enjoy everything from complimentary WiFi to preferences in room type and pillows; exclusive special offers, complimentary pressing and shoe shine as well as free nights at any Omni Hotels & Resorts location.
On top of all of these benefits, the Omni also has an amazing on site restaurant, Noe Restaurant and Bar, with Gluten Free, Vegan and healthy options to cater to any dietary needs.
If it wasn’t for my desire to show the kid’s the town, we wouldn’t have left the hotel, especially if my kids learned about the pool on the 3rd floor.
