Epic California Road Trip

Road trip concept and sunset

The OC Mom Blog is hitting the road this weekend for an epic California road trip inspired by Oh and Tip’s road trip in the Dreamworks animated film “Home.” Toyota has generously given us Highlander to pack up our family of five and cruise up the coast for an unforgettable summer family vacation.

Our first stop on the road trip will be in Monterey, California where we will “glamp” during the holiday weekend at the KOA campground. Our family will sleep comfortably in a small cabin and enjoy all the amenities that the KOA campgrounds offer families. While our family is in Monterey, we will visit the aquarium, play at the Dennis the Menace Park and explore the beautiful beaches.

Once we leave Monterey, our next stop will be in Redding. Redding is a place that we have always wanted to explore and is right next to some of the most beautiful national parks. We will soak up all the volcanic activity at the Lassen Volcanic National Park, swim in the waterfalls at the McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park and explore the caverns at Lake Shasta.

As we make our way back down the coastline, we plan to stop at sea glass beach at Fort Bragg, drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and stop for lunch at Ghirardelli Square.

Before we make our way back to Orange County, we are planning to spend a couple of days soaking up the beautiful area surrounding Morro Bay. We are going to explore the different beaches, savor delicious food and fly a kite.

Finally, we are going to end our road trip soaking up the desert sun at the Miramonte Resort & Spa. We will relax poolside under a cabana, dine at the onsite restaurant and make a visit to the Living Desert.

What do you think? Will we make Oh and Tip from “Home” proud with epic summer road trip? We encourage all of our readers to follow our adventure on social media with the hashtags #ocmomtravel and #HomeRoadTrip.

  1. I absolutely love Fort Bragg. Glass Beach is fun, but try out Pudding Creek, MacKerricher State Park tide pools, or Van Damme state park for some real natural beauty. Noyo Harbor is a great real working fishing harbor, and you can grab excellent fish and chips at Cap’n Flint’s there too.
