Paella Wine & Beer Festival + Giveaway

Orange County’s first ever Paella Wine & Beer Festival is coming to the Orange County Fair and Event Center on Saturday, August 26, 2017 from 4-9 p.m. Nearly 50 local chefs will compete with their own paella recipes for the chance to represent the United States at the World Paella Championship in Sueca, Valencia, Spain. Event entry includes unlimited wine, beer and paella and features an experience reflecting what one would find while strolling through a lively outdoor market in Spain. There will be live entertainment including Flamenco performances and Spanish rock, and local vendors will offer tapas, sangrias, cocktails, cultural art, and much more. Every paella will be judged by experts, most of which are traveling from Spain, to weigh in on the competition. At the event, there will also be a record set with the largest paella ever made in the United States, enough to feed 3,000 people, prepared by Chef Leo Razo of Villa Roma in Laguna Niguel. The festival will be held at 88 Fair Dr., Costa Mesa, CA 92626 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Saturday, August 26. Tickets start at $50 and include unlimited paella, wine and beer. A public viewing will begin at 9 a.m. for those planning to join millions across the United States to witness the unusual, daytime celestial event. Southern Californians won’t see the total eclipse — when the sun will be completely blocked by the moon, casting darkness on Earth — only a partial eclipse, explained Shovit Bhari, CSUF staff physicist. The public viewing will be held on the lawn on the south side of Dan Black Hall, off Nutwood Avenue. The eclipse is expected to start at 9:06 a.m. and end just before noon. At 9:06 a.m. in Fullerton, it is expected that 1 to 5 percent of the sun will be covered and at 10:21 a.m., up to 70 percent will be covered, Bhari said. Telescopes with filters designed to safely look at the sun, along with protective glasses made for solar viewing will be available for visitors.
