Barks of Love ‘Bark Bash’ Family Festival

Barks of Love ‘Bark Bash’ Family Festival

Barks of Love is an all-breed dog rescue in Orange County, CA that is the #1 non-profit rescue committed to match-making the perfect dogs with their perfect families. 100% No Kill and 100% Foster-based since 2008. Sadly though, they can never keep up with the demand of dogs in need. They often find themselves unable to take a dog into the rescue due to lack of an available foster. This problem has driven a need to expand the rescue’s practices into some type of facility that can be utilized in a short-term capacity so that they can save more dogs and have the time to place them into foster care and eventually forever homes. With this need to expand, came a need to fundraise and luckily The Event Loft and Gray Matter Museum stepped up to assist them in planning their largest fundraiser ever! On February 26, 2017 Barks of Love will be holding their “Bark Bash” which will consist of two main events. From 1-4pm a family friendly festival will take place, kids and dogs have free admission while adults will have a $10 minimum donation entrance fee. Once inside guests can enjoy dog training and agility demos, photo opportunities, visit with dogs available for adoption, shop at multiple pet food and pet accessory vendors, human clothing vendors, snacks, music, and more. A costume contest will be held for those that wish to bring their dogs in their finest, prizes will be provided by Pet Gift Box. The event will be held inside the museum so no need to worry about the weather, they’ve got you covered, literally! This is certainly something for the entire family to enjoy with vendors including Muddy Paws, Salty Dog Studio, Arm the Animals, Just Food For Dogs, Costa Mesa Animal Hospital, and more. For those looking for a night out for a good cause (or “paws”) their VIP After-Party Gala is for you. A $500 donation admits two guests into this elegant evening with a silent auction, fashion show, and cocktails sponsored by Tito’s Handmade Vodka inside The Gray Matter Museum. This is certainly an occasion you won’t want to miss! Tickets are available at BarksofLoveGala.Eventbrite.com or visit http://barksoflove.org for more information on this amazing event. Expanding their rescue is a dream that can only become a reality of the community confines to rally around us the way it has for over 8 years. We hope to see you...

A Girls Night Out at Corks & Canvas

A Girls Night Out at Corks & Canvas

We visited as a guest of the venue Recently, I had the chance to attend a really cool monthly event; Corks & Canvas, hosted by Fire + Ice at the GardenWalk in Anaheim. The funny thing is, I had just added a night out to go painting on my list of must do’s for the year ahead, I’m big on broadening my experiences each year. I was even more excited since this would allow me to revisit my love of painting; something I haven’t done for about ten years now. Venturing out in the rain this evening, I found I wasn’t going to let a little water from the sky stop me from painting and following my passion again. Corks & Canvas is all about enjoying an evening of painting! I loved that our instructor was from the local college and would guide us all, helping to create our own individual masterpieces. The knowledge of an instructor is key, plus they can teach you all the little tricks that make the paintings come to life. It’s a bit like a puzzle, but then the brushstrokes of paint take a life of their own. What was once an empty canvas is full of color. I adored that I could have a girls night out too! We enjoyed sipping a glass of wine while painting, doing some catching up, and noticing the differences in the work before us. Fun stuff! Corks & Canvas rotates locations within the GardenWalk in Anaheim; which gives you a chance to check out the various restaurants as well. This night Fire + Ice served up some incredibly tasty appetizers for us to enjoy; including Chicken Egg Rolls, Hummus with Homemade Pita Chips, Spicy Chicken Strips and Steamed Pot Stickers with various sauces. Fire + Ice is also known for their cool interactive grill experience where you can create a tasty bowl of Mongolian Barbecue. Yum! The next Corks & Canvas event will be held on March 16th, 2017 at McFadden’s within the GardenWalk. Included in the cost is: canvas, all materials needed for painting, a cute apron to stay clean, wine, appetizers and of course, the knowledgeable instructor. If you’re wanting to explore your creative spirit, it’s a great night out with your girlfriends, spouse, family or maybe it’s a first date; I recommend it! It’s a very fun evening, and you even get to take home your own artistic creation to proudly hang on your wall. I put mine up in the living room; it will certainly be a conversation starter. I think I’ll even have a few others that will want to join me for my next night out with Corks & Canvas. Making Monster Jam a Tradition

Making Monster Jam a Tradition

We visited as a guest of the venue Monster Jam is one of my most favorite shows to take my two sons to see. My oldest son is now 14, and we have been attending Monster Jam ever year since he was just 4 years old. We always make sure to get Pit Passes when purchasing our tickets so that we can get an up close look at the impressive monster trucks and meet their drivers before the show. Every year there is a show that is put on in the pits that are exclusive to the people who have purchased the Pit Pass. The pre-show never disappoints, and this year it was the motorcycle riders doing stunt jumps and street bikes that were burning rubber that was epic. Also, there were BMX bike riders doing awesome tricks for us. Once 5:30 hit we went into Anaheim Stadium to get some snacks and settle in our seats for the main event. There were a lot of big named trucks that came out for the show like Gold Digger and Hot Wheels. Every year the truck my sons and I enjoy watching is El Toro Loco just because that team never disappoints and always give a great run. I will say that this year Colt Stevens driving FS1 Cletus was the one to beat driving his truck into that back flip and bringing the crowd to their feet. All were cheering as he held the top spot for most of the freestyle event. If you have not gone to Monster Jam, I recommend getting tickets the next time it is in town. It’s an event that will have you wanting to come back every year to watch these huge trucks defy gravity as they soar in the air. Also, who can resist listening to those large engines roar? We certainly enjoy Monster Jam and have made it a yearly tradition to go out and cheer for our favorites and spend quality time together. The next Monster Jam show will be on February 25th at Angel’s Stadium. Tickets start at $25 and are available online. Steve is a race car, boat loving Dad with a love for adventure. When he is not bungie jumping off a bridge he is playing Monopoly with his kids or working on re-building a classic...
