Fairy Tale Date Night at Selanne Steak Tavern

Sponsored

While on a recent staycation in Laguna Beach, my husband and I hired a sitter to stay with our children at The Laguna Beach House Hotel, and we went out for an unforgettable date night at Selanne Steak Tavern. When we arrived at the restaurant, the building looked like something out of a Disney fairy tale. There was an adorable wishing well by the front door that we dropped a penny into before walking into the restaurant for an evening to remember.

The inside of the restaurant is just as beautiful as the outside. We took our seat at a private table and got ready to embark on an epicurean adventure. Selanne has a wide selection of wines available, and we were able to select the perfect glass of wine to toast before starting our dinner together.

For the first course, my husband started with the oysters. The seafood was fresh and tasted like the oysters had just been caught from the ocean that morning. While my husband opted to start his dinner with seafood, it was the Scarlet Beet Ravioli that caught my eye on the menu. It was one of the most unique and delicious salads that I have ever devoured and featured artisanal goat cheese, hazelnut, and a golden beet vinaigrette. I highly recommend ordering this dish when dining at Selanne.

Before our main course arrived at the table, the chef brought us a refreshing palate cleanser.

When it came to selecting the main course, it was hard to narrow it down to just one thing. There were so many delicious choices, and it was the filet mignon and lobster that stood out to me on the menu. When my dish arrived, it was beautifully presented. It came with a large steak and a stunning lobster tail. The minute that I cut into the steak, the juices poured out of the center of the meat revealing a perfectly cooked medium rare piece of meat. The steak practically melted in my mouth with every bite, and I couldn’t help but eat every last bit of the steak.

While I was enjoying my filet mignon and lobster, my husband couldn’t stop talking about how the bone in ribeye was one of the best steaks that he has ever eaten. My husband eats at steak houses around Orange County on a weekly basis entertaining clients for business, and he had never experienced a steak as tender as the one he was served at Selanne.

Our meal was paired with a side of macaroni and cheese with five kinds of cheeses and brioche crumb. Every bite was a little taste of heaven. Along with the macaroni and cheese, we had a side of fluffy mashed potatoes.

We didn’t think that we had left any room for dessert, but our server insisted that we try the banana cinnamon monkey bread, and we were so glad that he made the recommendation. The dessert was the perfect ending to our evening at Selanne and featured brûlée bananas, toffee, and rum raisin ice cream.
