Sponsored

FarmLab-049

Farm Lab Camp at The Ecology Center was created to engage and inspire children along a journey of ecological sustainability. By becoming junior farmers for a week, campers develop the tools they need to live a conscious, healthy lifestyle.

Over the past 7 years, The Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano has educated adults and children in simple, hands-on solutions that positively impact the health of our shared ecosystems. Farm Lab Camp takes place in The Ecology Center’s learning landscapes – designed to nurture the whole child. Campers will be immersed in an acre of interactive Eco Labs, nestled next to a 28-acre certified organic vegetable farm. Junior farmers will have an unparalleled view of the farm process and what it means to grow from seed-to-harvest. Our gardens are native, natural, and organic, allowing campers to fully enjoy the beauty and wonder of a safe, engaging, outdoor educational experience.

Our award-winning STEM-based curriculum is at the core of each Farm Lab Camp experience. Activities include: plant and animal care, planting, harvesting, composting, cooking from the garden, garden art, storytelling, water conservation, and more. Sessions are led by a team of certified, experienced educators in the areas of art, sustainability, and school gardens.

FarmLab-063

Farm Lab Campers will dig deep into food and farm life in the season when the garden truly comes alive. Through engaging and educational projects, activities, and games, campers leave The Ecology Center inspired to become stewards of sustainability at home and at school.

Testimonials:
“I’m very impressed how quick he learned to be more cautious in overuse of water and try to compost all kitchen scraps. He is now open to try tasting different plants/vegetables and I’m surprised to see how much he loved eating fenugreek flower at the farm table. Thank you for a wonderful experience!” – Nakisa Nowroozi

“Isaac had a great time Farm Lab camp. Pretty much the entire week was a slam dunk for him. He loves The Ecology Center and all of the activities were not only engaging but also fun. Thank you for putting on a great camp!!” – Erin Lloyd

“Farm Lab Camp in a nutshell, blew us away. It was beyond what I imagined it was going to be…and I have a pretty good imagination. It was the highlight of Griffin’s summer and something we will be doing every year. The kindness of the counselors and the totally unique nature of the program itself is something we are very grateful to have in our lives. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. We will definitely be doing this camp again and highly recommend it.” – Abby Illenberger

“Lily had a fantastic experience, we are so fortunate you are offering these classes for kids at The Ecology Center. She’s a devoted farmer/future chicken owner- Thank you and the staff for educating our kids.” – Amy Yeung

“I loved farm camp more than anything else I did this summer. The staff that I met there are so special and cool and nice. I learned so much about seeds, what farmers actually do, how to use all the info in my daily life. I would love to go again next year.” – Lily Yeung
