Girls’ Getaway in Ojai

Visited as a guest of the venue

A girls’ getaway doesn’t necessarily mean boarding a plane or heading to Vegas. Traveling a few counties over can be just as reenergizing to your mind and body, if not more so. We recently traveled to The Oaks at Ojai for a few nights, hoping to spend some quality time with our partner-in-crime.

We split our time between on-site and nearby activities. Our first day, we stopped by Hip Vegan for lunch al fresco. Fresh vegetables and grains were the perfect way to kickoff our getaway. After check-in, there was time to catch an afternoon Qigong class. Focusing on centering and balancing ourselves, it was what we needed to get into a relaxed mindset. We also got to talking with Eve, who was visiting for some “me time”. She just received a pedicure, and knew the class was mellow enough for her to participate barefoot.

Staying in for the evening, we also booked a signature spa facial with Meg. If you do decide to treat yourself, definitely add on the eye treatment! It has a cooling sensation we couldn’t get enough of. Meg was a professional, making sure our comfort was a priority with a heated table and warmers for both hands and feet. Before the sun went down, we stopped in a nearby convenience store for snacks since our room had a refrigerator and wet bar.

Our particular suite had a private courtyard entrance. What made this idyllic were the two seating areas they designated within this nook. We had our choice of duo lounge chairs for sun worshipping and stargazing, or a tabletop with four seats for playing board games we borrowed from the lounge. If the weather wasn’t cooperating, we could head indoors to read by the fireplace, or join evening activities in the main building. We chose to turn in early; there was a busy day ahead.

After a hot breakfast down the street at Ojai Emporium– a no-frills café with coffee shop attached, we made a point to stop by the hidden Intention Garden on our way back to our room and selected an inscribed stone to meditate on. Up next, a Hi/Lo Cardio session taught by Elizabeth. While the style of exercise varied each time, the intensity remained the same. This time around, we experienced old school dance aerobics. We moved across the room, maximizing every corner with kicks and strides and elongated arms. All our class needed were sweatbands to complete the theme.

Shortly after Hi/Lo, we arranged for a seasonal Ojai Pixie tangerine body scrub. Our favorite part was the Organic Fiji’s Lemongrass Tangerine lotion at the end of our treatment. Meg’s hard work refreshed our sore muscles before a light lunch on-site. The afternoon was spent exploring the main drag, referred to as the Arcade. FIG was an expansive home and garden shop filled with beautiful accessories, while Rains Department Store was brimming with kitchen gear. Popping into Ojai Beverage Company, we discovered 50 beers on tap to cool us down. A visit to the jacuzzi, followed by cocktails down the street inside Heritage Bar at Ojai Valley Resort at sunset ended our day about town.

The next morning we participated in a sunrise stroll, only to drift off from the group and end up in front of Knead for one of their notorious biscuit sandwiches. From there, we headed up to Meditation Mount and took in the view. If we had the time, we would’ve gotten lost in our thoughts. Instead, it was a reflection on the last few days—and how nice it was to have a change of scenery. We packed and departed, but not before stopping by The Nest gift shop for a memento of our time in Ojai. The front desk offered to pack our shrimp and quinoa salads to-go, making for a seamless departure. Until next time, Oaks.
