Looking for the perfect place to hike with your kids in Orange County? Our new favorite destination is Hilltop Park in Dana Point. The kids get a good workout, and they are close to nature while seeing killer views.

The access to Hilltop Park in Dana Point is just a few feet away from PCH on Green Lantern Street. When your family first turns onto Green Lantern off of PCH you’ll see the entrance to the park marked by a large set of stairs.

Once your family finds parking along Green Lantern, begin your journey up the giant set of stairs (this is a workout). At the top of the stairs is a series of trails that your family can explore. There are a lot of rare plants and animals along this trail, so it is recommended to stay on the path.

Make your way along the path to the top of the hill where you’ll find the park. At the park, there is a bench and trash cans. Your children will be in awe when their eyes first see the incredible views. It is a full 360 view of the ocean and city!

Recommendations: I recommend bringing along a picnic lunch or dinner (during sunset) to eat with your family at the park. There are a lot of sandwich spots in downtown Dana Point to pick-up a meal and take with your family to this special spot. I also recommend bringing water and wear extra sunscreen.

  1. Hello,
You didna piece on a location in southern california that was sone sort of mine and it was a cool place for children to see. Could you please tell me the name? It had a picture of a tunnel with lights mounted on the wall as to resemble an actual mine. I am very interested in seeing this with my children.
