Inspiring Moms at Mindful Her

We attended as a guest of the event

MindfulHer7

What a treat to be invited to attend the recent Mindful Her event; a full day for women to nurture their well being and learn about new ways to be more mindful in everyday life. As busy moms, daughters, sisters, friends and even co-workers gathered, it was nice to see so many taking the time to be good to themselves.

The brainchild of Joanne Forster and Kelly Lam is about creating something for women to find that balance in life, discovering new ways to stay healthy and fit while creating personal intent for living the life that you want to enjoy!

Imagine 300 women joining together, feeling the ease of the week releasing after an hour long yoga class. A lovely sight to witness; mid-morning, finding the balance in poses with the sun shining down everyone; smiles began to widen, shoulders dropped and we were a collective group ready to be in the present.

Throughout the day we enjoyed sessions on Mindful Communication, Aromatherapy, Wellness, Feng Shui and Finding the Calm in the Chaos. During breaks we were treated to Sambazon Acai Bowls, Smoothies from Amazing Grass and a delicious healthy lunch created by 118 Degrees. If someone put this in front of us daily, we’d definitely be eating better!

One of our favorite moments of the day was hearing Mallika Chopra speak about her new book, Living with Intent: My Somewhat Messy Journey to Purpose, Peace and Joy. Being a busy woman with a family of her own, she shared with us personal stories, tips on finding balance, learning to listen to our bodies and exercises for six steps in finding new ways of living with intent. She is a joy, very real, engaging and loves chocolate as much as the next woman.

She even shared with us that after this engagement, she would be headed to the zoo for a overnight camping stay with her family. Well, doesn’t this sound familiar for all of us mothers? Nurture ourselves, then we’re back at it but we wouldn’t have it any other way; our families are so important to us. A few days after the event we began reading her book, still enjoying the tools it offers; so take a peek at it and perhaps pick up a copy for yourself.

A portion of the days proceeds went to help support G.L.O.W. (Girls Leading Our World) a non-profit based in Santa Ana, CA. The program strives to transform and empower the lives of strong girls from vulnerable communities around the world. We were able to hear first hand their poems and participation in G.L.O.W. These girls are going places!

Most of us are aware that it takes balance in life to wear so many hats; mother, wife, friend, sister, etc. It’s great to know that we’re all participating in a similar journey and giving yourself time to come back to who you are and what you need is just as important. These lovely women, Joanne and Kelly have created something very special for women to share in. They have some other events happening at the beginning of 2016 and definitely keep your eye out for the next Mindful Her event! Be Mindful, Be Present and Be Grateful.
