Long Bay Beach in the Turks and Caicos

We attended the Beaches Social Media on the Sand Conference

Long Bay Beach in the Turks and Caicos

When exploring Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos by car, Long Bay Beach is one the top beaches to visit with your family. The beach is located on the opposite side of the island from the popular Grace Bay Beach and offers families a much different experience. The only challenge is actually getting to the beach.

We quickly found out why this beach is so exclusive to visitors on the island because of the challenge for non-locals to find the public beach access. We were given instructions on how to find the beach from a local on the island, and we set out to spend some time swimming after our hike to “The Hole.” To find the beach, we had to make our way along a dirt road, and slowly drive until we saw an opening in the natural tropical landscape to access the beach.

At first, we accidentally thought the side of a construction zone was the beach access, and after a couple of laughs with the locals working on the new hotel project, we continued our way down the street to find the public access.

Once we finally found a dirt opening on the road, we parked the car on the side of the road and walked down to the beautiful Long Bay Beach. The waters were slightly rough because of the upcoming storm, but the sand was covered with beautiful shells for our children to collect while walking along the beach.

We walked along almost the entire stretch of the beach, and what we thought was a short cut trail to the main dirt road ended up taking us directly into the lush natural tropical jungles of the island. Our children got to see native wildflowers and plants as we carefully made our way through the rainforest, and back to the trail where we hiked back to the car.

Long Bay Beach is the perfect place for families who are looking to spend the afternoon at an exclusive local beach. You’ll have miles upon miles of white sand and turquoise waters all to yourself for the afternoon.

I recommend bringing a picnic lunch, and spend the day at Long Bay Beach bonding together as a family. Long Bay Beach can be located shortly after leaving the Providenciales airport off Leeward Highway and Long Bay Highway. Have fun spending the day at this unspoiled natural treasure in the Turks and Caicos.
