Bring your family to celebrate the Lunar New Year at the Happiest Place on Earth from January 20th through February 5th. There will be entertainment, culinary offerings and a special feature “Hurry Home” before the start of “World of Color.” Come join Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Mulan and Mushu at Disney California Adventure Park for the Lunar New Year Celebration.

Sensational Story Time (11:00am): My First Chinese New Year by Karen Katz > Join us in Orange Plaza as we read a story which follows one little girl as she learns how to welcome the coming year and experience all the festivities surrounding it. After the reading we will enjoy a snack of Tangerine and Orange Slices for good luck.

Literacy Lessons (1:00pm): R is for Rooster > Join us in the farm for a lesson all about roosters and the letter R. Come ready to show us your best Cock-a-doodle-doo!

Sensational Story Time (3:00pm): D is for Dragon Dance by Ying Chang Compestine> A is for Acrobats. B is for Balls. C is for Calligraphy. D is for Dragon Dance. From firecrackers to noodles, from red envelopes to the zodiac, young readers are introduced to the exciting traditions of the Chinese New Year visually stunning homage to the holiday. This story time will be followed by a noodle sensory bin exploration!

Chinese New Year Dragon Parade (4:50pm): Today we will have a special Chinese New Year themed closing parade including dragons!

Grown-up Tip: Make your own family tradition. Look for pictures from the past year and make a 2016 picture book. Let your child describe what is happening in each picture and write it down. Every year your family can go down memory lane and remember good times. Happy Chinese New Year!!

Celebrate the Year of the Monkey at MainPlace Mall’s Lucky Lunar New Year Celebration on Saturday, February 6 from 12pm to 3pm. You will be delighted with signature Lunar New Year festivities including cultural, musical and dance performances featuring a traditional Lion Dance performed by Southern Wind Lion Dance team from the Vietnamese Student Association at the University of California, Irvine, and contestants from the Miss Vietnam of Southern California Pageant. In addition, there will be stilt walkers, a calligraphy artist and an interactive Zodiac display. The event will conclude with a Red Envelope distribution.

Families are invited to celebrate the Lunar New Year at Outlets at San Clemente, presented by the Irvine Chinese School and the Three Treasures Cultural Arts Society based out of San Diego. The free, family-friendly event will include a 30-foot Dragon Dance, interactive Lion Dances for kids, martial arts demonstrations, arts and crafts activities, face painting, balloon animals and the Chubbee Monkee Food Truck.

In addition to the celebration, Outlets at San Clemente will host a Red Envelope Giveaway from Friday, January 27 through Thursday, February 2, with special offers, deals from retailers and a special $108 Outlets at San Clemente gift certificate, redeemable at all of the centers’ stores and restaurants. Red envelopes are gifts presented at social and family gatherings, during holidays such as Chinese New Year. The red color of the envelope symbolizes good luck and is believed to ward off evil spirits. Shoppers can visit Customer Service to receive their free red envelope gifts. Limit one per household, while supplies last.

The Anaheim Packing House

The Anaheim Packing House is honored to present its nearly 9-foot tall welcome roosters in costume for the forthcoming Lunar New Year, Year of the Rooster, Saturday, January 28 and February 4. Besides this incredible photo opportunity, we invite all to join in the Instagram photo contest, enjoy fortune cookie giveaways (while supplies last) and write messages of hope and fortune to hang on the Wishing Tree in the Back Yard of the Packing House. A calligrapher will style your name with artistic Chinese characters and Oxford Academy volunteers will lead younger guests in cultural handicrafts. Entrance, activities and entertainment are all family friendly and FREE to the public.

On Saturday, February 4th, the Packing House welcomes a very special presentation by Ane Thanh Lion Dancers beginning at 4pm. In addition to admiring their gorgeous lion costumes, guests will be invited to learn of traditional Chinese musical instruments.
