Mid Size SUV with Full Size SUV Amenities
After having children, I only wanted the largest car on the road. A car that I felt could handle all the needs of our busy lifestyle, but also be the safest on the road. I’ve been driving my full-size SUV around the hilly Orange County community for the past five years, and being impacted with the huge expense of driving such a large vehicle so frequently.
We go through brakes at least every three months, and I can never get out of the gas station for under $130 a fill-up. Did I mention that I fill-up 2-3 times a week? That’s what happens when you are driving three kids all around town to their various activities.
With the cost of driving our large size SUV impacting our family budget and the concern about the harm, we are doing to our environment, my husband I have been looking for a midsize SUV to downsize.
When we were planning a road-trip up to go camping in Santa Barbara for the weekend, we knew that this vacation would truly test whether our family could function with a smaller vehicle. We got the 2014 Kia Sorento LX AWD to take on our camping trip, and my first thought was “how am I going to pack all the camping supplies we need into that car?”
What I didn’t realize is that once I was inside the car, that the Kia Sorento offers pretty close to the same amount of room that our large SUV does. I was able to pack all our camping supplies, firewood, clothes and the kids tent into the back of the Sorento while still having plenty of room for my family of five.
My final concern was safety until reading a testimony one of our readers shared on our Facebook page:
The car has dual front advanced airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags, side curtain airbags, front active headrests, anti-lock breaks, traction control, electronic stability control and more. The Sorento offers more safety options than any other car that I have driven before (including my currently large size SUV).
We used the easy-to-use navigation to guide us along the picturesque coastline to our destination in Santa Barbara. The ride was smooth, comfortable and the SIRIUS XM Satellite radio had our family singing along to our favorite tunes.
Our family was able to travel from Orange County to Santa Barbara and back on only 1 1/2 tanks of gas. The car gets 21 MPG combined with 19 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway. That is an annual fuel cost of just $2500.
The 2014 Kia Sorento is #1 on our list to purchase for our next family vehicle. If your family is in the market for a midsize or large SUV, the Kia Sorento is guaranteed to meet all your family needs.
