Once Upon A Time at Bower’s Kidseum

We attended as guests of the museum.

Once Upon a Time Kidseum

Once Upon a Time… Exploring the World of Fairy Tales is the new exhibit at Bower’s Kidseum. The various hands-on and educational displays explore the wonder and importance of Fairy Tales throughout history and from around the world. Once Upon a Time Kidseum

Seven favorite Fairy Tales are depicted on larger than life, interactive storybook pages thought the museum. Little ones can read (or be read) a synopsis of the story and then get a unique hands-on feel for it as they interact with the exhibits.

Kidseum’s mission is “Igniting imagination through exploration,” stressing the excitement of art, archaeology and world cultures. A perfect safe place for toddlers through early elementary kids to enjoy, Kidseum truly lives up to it’s name as a great kid’s museum. It’s featured specialty exhibits compliment the permanent exhibits that visitors can enjoy year round, such as the Glow Cave, the Green Screen Time Machine, and the Archeology Lab.

My two girls, ages 3 and 6, loved the freedom to explore the museum. Everything is on their level and many different props are available for pretend play. We visited on opening weekend in the afternoon, and despite the museum having quite a bit of traffic for the weekend, nothing seemed overcrowded when we were there. The various rooms and different levels of the museum are well spread out and afford children plenty of space to explore, while still being small enough to manage with several kids and one chaperone.

Some of my girl’s favorites were the art studio and face painting, both of which are permanent features of the museum.

Another favorite was the balloon artist, which was featured as part of opening weekend, along with a fun photo booth for both kids and parents alike.Once Upon a Time Kidseum

As a Mom, one of my favorite activities was the Write Your Own Fairy Tale, where children can sit down and a computer program takes them through the process of writing a simple Fairy Tale of their own. They can then print it out and take it home as a memento of their visit to the museum.  My 6 year old was particularly interested in this and wrote several stories of her own. It was a great way to get kids involved in the writing process!
