Pacific Coast Center for the Arts: Your One-Stop Neighborhood Arts Complex
Where can you take ballet, Pilates, piano and voice lessons, a painting class, and record a song? The answer lies behind the doors of the largest Arts center in Orange County: the Pacific Coast Center for the Arts (PCCA).
Originally founded as Pacific Coast Academy of Dance (PCAD) in 2002, PCAD moved its studio from San Clemente to a state-of-the art 20,000 square foot facility on a quiet cul-de-sac in Mission Viejo.
“Our expansion allowed us to support dancers of all levels (pre-professional, commercial and recreational), and all genres (classical, commercial, musical theatre),” explains Sandra Ishida Russell, executive director, PCCA.
However, Ishida had a vision that would far exceed her dreams of dance.
“We want to give back quality time to families who find themselves on the road more than in the home,” said Ishida. “We provide one safe, educational and nurturing location with activities for preschoolers, boys and girls, teens and college students.”
PCCA provides these all-in-one spot professional services:
- Dance: Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Tap, Tumbling. Ages three – Adult; Classical, Commercial; all levels (recreational & career track)
- Music: Voice, Musical Instruments, Pacific Coast Children’s Choir
- Art: Ceramics, painting, drawing for children & adults
- Musical Theatre: OVATIONS! Musical Theatre program offers weekly classes and seasonal performances
- Fitness: Boogie Box, Pilates, Zumba, Conditioning
PCCA houses seven dance studios (sprung floors to help prevent injuries), a community event loft with patio, audio surround-sound, A/C throughout, parent-friendly observation windows, kitchen facilities, dancer lockers, on site dancewear boutique, Pilates studio, fully equipped gym and on-site recording studio. Additionally, there are several spaces available for rent, including special events and weekly meetings.
All instructors and vendors are credentialed with degrees from universities and/or have professional experience with prominent companies, national and international.
“In addition to their qualifications, they know that teaching with love and respect rather than criticism and competitiveness brings out each student’s true potential,” elaborates Ishida.
PCCA’s Community & Parent Services
PCCA is committed to being an active community partner in issues that deeply impact the lives of families in Orange County and beyond.
PCCA offers its unique Live and Learn Seminars that provide free information to the community with an agenda of mind, body and spirit wellness. The current series is “Essential Oils: Healthy Benefits for Healthy Families.” Past topics included How to Prepare Your Child for School Bullys, Internet Cyber Protection for Kids, Healthy Bodies / Healthy Minds.
PCCA also supports outside organizations including the Alzheimer’s Association, Cerebral Palsy, The Joyful Child, the NAPAB (National Association of People Against Bullying). The Future of PCCA
What’s in the future of PCCA? According to Ishida, “Now that all of our initial program goals have been met, our plan for 2015-16 includes the addition of a state of the art Performance Venue, Aerial Arts (silks and aerial hoops) and Eastern Arts.”
“It is my passion to provide a safe place where families can learn, thrive and expand their understanding of self, our culture and the freedom that comes with artistic, personal expression,” concludes Ishida.
