Rancho Las Palmas: Special Needs Mom Paradise

I was fortunate enough to take a quick vacation this past summer.  After a little research I stumbled upon Rancho Las Palmas in Rancho Mirage, CA.  I found them looking for summer deals for midweek trips.

We arrived at the resort on Sunday afternoon, and while the heat was shocking, the pool was a huge relief.  My water crazy children had found their own personal oasis that gave them so much pleasure.

The grounds were gorgeous, early morning and late evening walks were beautiful, and we were across the street from The River Promenade, an outdoor mall that had many restaurants to choose from and a Ben and Jerry’s for a little late night snack.

The lazy river was by far my children’s favorite feature of the resort along with the water slides.  The whole Splashtopia area was perfectly planned out.  I was able to see my children most of the time unless they were under a bridge on the river, so I could keep an eye.  The staff of the pool area was informed of my kids autism and their personality traits.  It was an amazingly competent and understanding group of life guards that made the experience pleasant and non stressful for me as a mom.

The room was exquisite, I loved the decor and the linens and bed were comfy and cozy.  The resort really quieted down at night so we were able to get some good rest, and it gave my kids the sensory break they needed.

Rancho Las Palmas really thought of everything for a family to have an enjoyable stay.  I loved the crazy golf in the evening at Tee Box 6 and the movie in the pool night.  When we needed a break from the pool and the heat they had set up an arcade in the ball rooms and just wow!  My son was in all kinds of heaven with the video games and air hockey.

As I told the resort about my kids and their autism, and  some accommodations I needed for their medication and special diet, they went above and beyond, and really helped make our first vacation at a hotel an enjoyable one.  The staff was courteous, and attentive to us at all times, and really put my fears at ease.

We unfortunately had to leave a day early because the trip became a little to stimulating for one of my kids and he really wanted to be home.  The staff was helpful in getting us out quickly and making what could have been a real emergency to my special boy, turn into a quick and efficient experience.  The staff and resort were top notch and I couldn’t recommend them any higher.
