They had me at free cycle shoes. Never have I ever heard of a cycle studio offering complimentary cycle shoes (clean too!) along with stylish water bottles at every class. This is a true luxury, especially at no additional charge!
CycleBar is modern, organized and well thought out. The atmosphere is bright and energizing with bold pops of red in design features. They offer one large cycle room with stadium seating and club-like lighting. Every cyclist knows the importance of good lighting because it not only compliments our physique in the mirror (makes us look a bit hotter while we sweat our buns off). It also keeps us motivated when a drill gets more intense, and that little voice inside of us is telling us to quit, something about those high-intensity lights keeps us going.
Their bikes are top of the line and are linked up together to encourage your ride to count. A large flatscreen tv at the front of the room showcases riders performances throughout the class, but I will say it’s in a subtle manner and not overbearing where it ends up being the only thing you focus on.
Often studios offer free weights during your ride to add upper body workouts, and CycleBar doesn’t disappoint here either. Rather than providing free weights, they offer a padded 2′ long weighted bar. This was also something I had never seen before and initially didn’t think there would be a difference, but you’re actually able to hit a lot more muscles with just using the one bar, not too mention I felt a lot more coordinated with just one!
I had heard good things about their instructors thru the grapevine, but after taking a class, my expectations were surpassed. Ali Jones was kind, patient and full of just the right amount of energy. She rode her bike the entire time, which is sometimes a struggle in some classes as the instructors like to hop off and come around to make sure you’re pedaling hard enough, but let’s be honest it’s more frustrating for us riders because the instructor gets a break and we don’t! Ali also had insanely good music and the best part was that after the class CycleBar emailed you the Spotify playlist so you could download (again, for free!) what songs you liked. I can’t even tell you how many times I’m pedaling thinking ” What is this song? It’s epic!”…and then never knowing, problem solved!
After my ride I hit the complimentary water station and noticed my fellow cyclists, there were men and women of all ages and sizes. Collectively we were all sweaty, tired and yet incredibly empowered. It was a nice feeling that this wasn’t just another studio with beautiful people in Lululemon, but REAL people from our community with the common goal of burning calories while having fun!
CycleBar offers 60-minute rides each day – morning, noon and night. They’re conveniently located off the 5 freeway at La Paz, so if you’re commuting from the office or home, I’d say they’re pretty centrally located; I was able to get there from Irvine in 15 minutes at 6 pm rush hour!
