Recycling Tips for Families in the New Year
Ever since my youngest son started at a Waldorf School, he has been learning more and more about how he can better care for our environment. He has been sharing with our family everything he is learning at school, and we have been making a conscious effort to become a more “green family.”
One of the biggest impacts families can make on caring for our environment is to recycle. I’ll be honest that over the past couple of years our family has not been the best at recycling. The hardest part is that we could never seem to find a recycling system for our household that did not take up a lot of room and was efficient.
With one of our family New Year’s resolutions is to become a more eco-friendly household, I began searching for a product that would help us to have an efficient and effective household recycling program. When I started doing online product research, I was overwhelmed with all of the different options available on the market. I wanted a system that wouldn’t stand out in our kitchen and match our decor.
Since I have had a Simplehuman trash can in my kitchen that has lasted over ten years and still looks and operates well, I decided to invest in the Simplehuman recycling solution. I know that it will be a product that will last a long time, and I love the sleek look of their recycling can.
We have been using the recycling system for the past couple of weeks, and it has worked great to help keep our family accountable with recycling. It is a rectangular can that when you push the foot pedal down the lid will open to reveal two compartments – one for trash and one for recyclables.
The best part about the recycling system is that there is a compartment just for liners. When my kids take out the trash, they can easily replace the trashcan with a new liner. No more excuses for lazy teens who don’t want to open a cupboard to get out a new trash can liner.
The Simplehuman trash recycling system is priced at $200 and will last your family a long time. The stainless steel pedal is engineered to last over 150,000 steps (20 steps a day for 20 years). My old Simplehuman trashcan pedal still works like the day I got it after ten years when we replaced it with this new product. Learn more about Simplehuman online at simplehuman.com.
