Repurpose4Good – Not Just On Earth Day, But Everyday

disclosure
Have you visited your local Goodwill lately? I recently attended an event at the Lake Forest Goodwill during Earth Day, and was very pleasantly surprised by their transformations!

Did you know they actually have 2 stores at the location (23740 El Toro Road)? On the left-hand side is the “main” Goodwill store, filled with racks of gently used clothing and shoes for men, women, and children, tons of glassware and knick-knacks, some furniture, and other home items. On the right-hand side is the “Keepers”, which has been recently redone as the 2nd “OC Goodwill Boutique”. This side is filled with brand name and designer items, mostly clothing for women, some shoes and bags, and men’s items as well.

I also learned a lot of interesting facts about Goodwill that are worth sharing with you all!

Did you know that Goodwill of Orange County opened its first store in 1924??? That’s 90 years ago! Way before Disneyland or Knott’s Berry Farm!

Goodwill’s main mission is helping people get and keep jobs. Everyday on average, they are able to place at least 3 people in good jobs.

In 2013 alone, over 49 million pounds of products have been diverted from landfills by Goodwill – that’s 95% of the total landfill diversion!

Almost 100% of items donated to Goodwill are repurposed or resold. Unless they are clearly “garbage”, it’s always better to just go and donate. We can help our Earth and other people in need – a win-win situation ☺

The famous saying, “one person’s trash is another person’s treasure” is really true. When you spend some time at Goodwill stores, you might just find a treasure for yourself! And an item you no longer need may become somebody else’s treasure!
