School of Rock Opening in Huntington Beach
Do you have a music lover in your home? Then we’ve got some great news for you!
School of Rock, the leader in performance-based music education inspiring the world to rock on stage and in life, will be opening a new location in Huntington Beach on November 1st.
School of Rock is an ingenious concept that gets kids and adults rocking out to the classics and on stage performing with their peers. Music programs are designed to create a supportive environment where music students of all skill levels are comfortable yet challenged at every turn.
In addition to individual private music instruction on guitar, bass, vocals, keyboards and/or drums, School of Rock combines weekly one-on-one lessons with structured group rehearsals and jam sessions, culminating in a live performance in front of real crowds at legendary rock venues.
School of Rock Huntington Beach will be owned and operated by professional musicians Larry Boodman, an OSCA Alumni who picked up his first drum set at the age of thirteen, and Jeff Nunes, who started playing guitar as at the age of six and began playing professionally as a teenager.
Born and raised in Huntington Beach, Boodman graduated from CSU – Fullerton’s Film/TV program and spent much of his young adult life in the film industry. With long hours on the set and no time for music, the need to play began to eat away at him. In 2001, he co-founded the L.A. based, award winning, indie-rock band Fourwayfree and started touring the country while also working as a mortgage broker. Growing up with a passion for rock and roll, Nunes decided to leave his job as a corporate attorney to pursue a career in music and became a co-founding member and front man for the Bay Area rock band Interstate. It was during this leap of faith that he crossed paths with Boodman, who asked him to become the lead guitarist for his newly formed band.
After seven years in the spotlight, priorities shifted for Boodman and Nunes, who decided to give up their musical career in 2012, both returning to the corporate world until Nunes came across an advertisement promoting the School of Rock franchise opportunity.
With a lifelong dream of owning his own business, Nunes approached his former band mate to join him in bringing School of Rock to Huntington Beach, knowing that together, their skills would be the perfect combination to grow a successful business and build a positive musical community in Huntington Beach.
With more than three decades of experience in sound design and recording, as well as years spent touring and performing at live venues as a professional bassist and vocalist, the school’s new Director Joey Ancona started his musical career playing in bands and performing in high school. A professional theatre arts teacher for over 20 years – most notably at OCSA where he first met Boodman – Ancona has worked with renowned musicians and Broadway stars including Matthew Morrison and Lindsay Mendez. With a deeply-rooted passion for nurturing the development of local artists, Ancona can’t wait to launch a robust band coaching program through School of Rock where local bands can develop presentation and performance skills to take their musical careers to the next level.
With an autistic son, the owner realizes the growing need for local programs that support the development of children with learning and behavioral disorders. With plans to launch a music program specifically designed for children with special needs, School of Rock Huntington Beach will fill the local gap in supplemental education programs, unleashing confidence and talent in students of every age and skill level.
All School of Rock programs are performance-based and emphasize the message that music is not just about playing an instrument; it’s about teamwork, building confidence, and creating leaders. Programs include “Rock 101”, which teaches basic skills to beginners, the “Performance Program,” the second stage and heart and soul of School of Rock, an enriching “Rookies” program for first and second grade rockers, and a pre-school program called, “Little Wing,” designed to introduce toddlers to the joy of music. Furthermore, students have the opportunity to play and interact with famous artists who serve as guest professors and mentors. From preschoolers to adults, School of Rock brings together a diverse group of rockers in every community it serves, proving that Rock and Roll is still alive.
School of Rock Huntington Beach will be open Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. School of Rock Huntington Beach’s grand opening celebration full of festivities to take place on November 1, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. The events will kick off with a live music performance from School of Rock students, and feature family fun activities and refreshments. School of Rock Huntington Beach will be located at 18584 Main Street in Huntington Beach.
