Stand-up for the Right to Have Access to More Organic in the US
One of my most important jobs as a mother is to ensure the food I am feeding my children is the highest quality available. I try to incorporate as many organic foods into our family diet and help to supplement the cost of purchasing organic for a family of five by growing backyard summer produce and doing a majority of my grocery shopping at local farmer’s markets.
I am sure that parents like myself agree that we need more organic food available – not less and that we need the GRO Organic Check-Off program to help strengthen and support organic farmers in our community.
Now, I am not one to ever be political, but when it comes to having access to organic foods to feed my children, I am going to stand-up and fight for it.
I spend a lot of time in Mexico, and one of the things that I love about spending time in that country is that most of their foods are GMO-free. The meats that you eat in Mexico come from cows raised by local ranchers; the fish comes fresh from the ocean, and the vegetables are grown by local farmers. I can tell a difference in the overall way I feel when visiting Mexico because of the foods I am putting into my diet while in the country.
On our recent trip to La Paz last week, I went to the local market to get food to take to the beach. My younger son kept asking me why the fruits and vegetables look so different than they do in the U.S. They are oddly shaped and not cookie cutter form like the one’s he is used to seeing in the U.S. grocery stores. It was a great opportunity for me to talk to him about the difference between local/organic produce vs. genetically modified produce. The first thing he said was, “that can’t be good for people in the U.S. to eat produce that isn’t organic mom.” Even children understand the importance of eating an organic diet.
As parents, we need to support organic farmers in the U.S. by backing the GRO Organic Check-off program. What is the GRO Organic Check-off program? The program will help to give more farmers the tools to begin growing more organic and help to educate families on the importance of eating an organic diet. The GRO Organic Check-off program would mean access to more organics vs. less!
We need your help. Speak up and protect your children’s rights to have access to organic foods. Tell the USDA that you want access to more organic foods for your family by submitting a comment in the form below. It takes just a couple of seconds to make a significant difference in the lives of families in the U.S. The GRO Organic check-off program will not cost taxpayers anything and could be the start of changing our broken food system. It is our children’s future at stake.
