Summer Learning Made fun with ABC Mouse
Complimentary download received
I have seen many people talk about ABC Mouse, and I have viewed many commercials on television talking about it. I always wondered how well a site like this worked, but the price tag always kept me away. I thought we were doing just fine using other free websites and Apps, and now I can say that I was 100% wrong! You do get what you pay for with ABC Mouse.
The layout is very child-friendly, and the content inside is superior to those other learning sites. Since the very first day, we started this site my son has asked and begged to play. He is just about to be two and a half, and his attention span was very limited, but over the past two months he has begun to sit still and learn for longer periods of time. We first tried to use ABC Mouse on our home computer. For his age, it did not work well. Moving the mouse was difficult for him to navigate, so we decided to try on my iPhone 6 plus and the App, which worked beautifully. He loved it, and we quickly graduated him to an iPad mini and this is how he has played the majority of the time.
Once you set up your account and put in your child’s information, you will be on your way. You can add multiple children that are nice if you have more than one child.
In the part of the app where the learning center is located, he is greeted by a person or mouse of his choice. The voice is very inviting, and my son loves copying what the mouse says. On the learning path, you have a set amount of steps to complete to pass each lesson. These steps will change by age level. For my son’s age, he is on the very beginner levels. He has to do things like listen to songs, complete very easy puzzles, color pictures and listen to stories. His favorite is doing the puzzles that consist if him dragging pieces near the puzzle and they pop into place on their own. You can change the difficulty on this, and I am happy to say he has moved up a few levels that you have to drag the pieces and place them directly in the correct spots. It took him a while to master, and he still has more difficulty levels to move up.
While your children are learning, they are also getting something else. They get tickets for all the things they complete which they can cash in to get things in a few different shops. This reward system is very motivating. My son loves to get as many tickets as he can, so he can put things into his cart and check out.
Along with the Learning Path, there are seven other areas to explore. The classroom which is decorated to resemble a real classroom you can venture around to the different areas to learn about certain subjects. These are broken up into Preschool, Pre-K, and Kindergarten levels. There is a Zoo where your children can play the game and learn fun facts about the animals on the zoo map. You can also do the same in the Farm. In the center of the screen is a Map and you can go all around to the different areas such as a Library, pet park, farm, toddler time, my room, classroom and much more.
On the home screen, you will see a what’s new section filled with many things to learn and explore. They also have featured activities and a section of things to do. My sons favorite thing to do here is play Hamster Ball Bowling. It is teaching him basic addition, and he has no clue he is learning. He just thinks he is playing a game, which for me is wonderful because he is being challenged and still having a great time playing.
The thing I enjoy about ABC Mouse is that I can sit with my son and help him learn, but he can also sit by himself and play and learn. ABC Mouse is easy enough for my two-year-old to navigate on my phone and iPad. At this stage, he cannot do this on the computer alone, but he will sit with me for a little bit to play online.
Will this be the only way to teach you children stuff? No, you should still spend time and do other activities with your kids too, but this will be a valuable tool in teaching your little ones.
Overall we are very happy with ABC Mouse, and I look forward to seeing the progress my son continues to make while using it.
