Tarzan presented by MTOC

We attended as a guest of MTOC

Last night I was invited by Musical Theater Orange County (MTOC) to experience their production of Disney’s Tarzan.

This full-scale production blew my mind away.

From the amazing technical talent of the cast to its gorgeous setting, this production would be held equal to its Broadway counterpart.

Tarzan closed on Broadway 7 years ago after 486 performances.  Due to its large-scale, very few local companies could take on the task of showcasing it.

A few years ago the team at MTOC explored Tarzan for a possible production and were moved by the music of Phil Collins.  After that they poured they heart, soul and love into this production and they opened with a bang.

They chose the newly opened PYLUSD Performing Arts Center located on the El Dorado High School campus as Tarzan’s home and chose beautiful.  The theater was comparable to that of South Coast preparatory in size and sound.

With state of the art sound and lighting any production held here would be supported well.  Tarzan started off with a ship crashing on an island causing a family of three to build a home there.  Unfortunately their time as a family ended abruptly when a leopard killed Tarzan’s parent along with a baby gorilla.

The mother of that baby gorilla took on Tarzan as her own and his life transformed from an aristocratic infant to a man ape.  The production focuses on Tarzan’s struggle to fit into his nest and self-awareness of how different he truly was from his peers.   It wasn’t until he bumped into a beautiful Homo sapiens, Jane that he then realized what he actually was, a human.

From the music, to dance and beautifully written story line, this production will have you smiling, tearing up and cheering.  I am keeping MTOC on my radar and planning on attending their future productions.

There are so few places that you can go and watch great theater at a low-cost. Tarzan will be running July 18, 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27; tickets are $25.  To reserve your seats or to learn more about Musical Theatre Orange County please visit their website at www.mtoc.org.

I’m an OC mom of two and photographer. I love living in Southern California and want to expose my children to all that it offers. I love taking my kids on adventures and capturing their every moment so much so that my kids find it odd if I don’t take their pictures. You can see my work on facebook.com/photosbynaz.
