Tips For Keeping Your Kid Car Tidy (Giveaway)

Pre-kids my vehicle was, frankly, immaculate. There would be an occasional leftover coffee cup or bottled water in the drink holder, and some dry cleaning hanging in the backseat. But now, I’ve fallen into the abyss that I swore I would never enter: the dirty kid car. kidcar The smells emitted from the backseat from my once well-maintained car have been replaced with a mix of sweat, dirt and Cherrios. The ground crumbs and spilled juice box stains have taken a toll on my aging SUV. I decided to do something, or, well, at least call someone to help steer me in the right direction. I called the professionals at the All Hands Car Wash in Aliso Viejo. Manager Ricardo Marquez offered me these helpful tips:

  1. Protect. Cover the interior of your vehicle as much as possible. This includes floor mats (full coverage mats recommended), seat covers, steering wheel covers, etc.
  2. Periodic Spot Cleaning. Spot clean the interior without doing a full-blown detail. This is not only more cost effective, but will help maintain the ‘newness’ of your vehicle. Remember to treat the vinyl or leather interior to keep material from cracking.
  3. Limit food intake and provide a trash bin or receptacle. Clearly, banning eating in the car altogether is probably not going to happen when it comes to shuttling kids to and from soccer games and birthday parties. Kids are, on the other hand, more likely to put their trash in a bin if you have it handy and encourage them to use it.

Marquez’s final piece of advice: “Don’t use your car as a personal storage closet. It tremendously minimizes the efficiency and the quality of the car cleaning service, while contributing to the declining resale value of your vehicle.”

So, with Fall almost here, it’s the perfect time to launch Operation Immaculate Kid Car. Are you in? If so, let us know how you keep your family’s car clean, and enter to win two free All Hands Car Wash Super Washes!

  1. With two boys, both our cars constantly need cleaning! We use seat covers and car organizers but the mess always seems to find the car rugs or seats! Plus, sometimes the kids will put their sticky hands all over the car door and leave unsightly marks 🙁 My husband keeps some car wipes and a hand held vacuum for these small messes and then makes sure to get a thorough cleaning done once a month!

  3. We use a dust buster to suck up all the loose things and try to avoid really messy food in the car!

  4. I try to clean out the car daily and keep a shop vac in the car.
