Tonita’s Mexican Food in San Luis Obispo
There is nothing I love more than authentic Mexican Food. While on our recent road trip to Monterey, we made a quick stop in San Luis Obispo to look at Bubblegum Alley and to have lunch. When we arrived in town, there were endless choices of places where we could stop for lunch, but it was a small taco shop on the corner that caught our eye, and we had one of the best lunches at Tonita’s Mexican Food.
The restaurant is a small building that has a large outdoor patio with a beautiful view of lush plants and trees. We were a little deceived at first because the Yelp app was advising that the restaurant was closed, but when we turned the knob on the front door, there was a lovely lady at the counter ready to take our order.
There were so many delicious choices on the menu, and my daughter immediately knew that she wanted to order a couple of carne asada tacos – her favorite. I normally would have followed her choice, but I was curious to see how their shrimp tacos tasted. The best part about our lunch at Tonita’s is that they had authentic Coke from Mexico – our favorite!!
We found a table on the patio and toasted to a fabulous weekend together. The server brought us some freshly made tortilla chips that we paired with the different salsas from the salsa bar. Then it was time for the best part – lunch!
The shrimp taco was tasty, but the carne asada tacos that my daughter was devouring were incredible. After having a bite of her taco, I went back inside to order myself one. I warn you; you can’t just eat one. We savored every bite of our lunch and reminisced about the fun things we had done while on our road trip. We could have spent all day relaxing on the patio at Tonita’s, but we had a long list of things we wanted to stop and see while on our way to Monterey.
When visiting San Luis Obispo, make plans to have lunch at Tonita’s Mexican Food. They only take cash, so come prepared. They are located at 1024 Nipomo St, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401.
