Top Three Picks from OC Fashion Week

oc-fashion-week-1

Did you even know there was an OC fashion week? I didn’t. I was thrilled to get an invitation to the opening day fashion show, Sugar Rush The Sweet Splendor of Style! My friend Janell and I had a great time exploring the dozens of pop-up shops at 7 degrees Restaurant in Laguna Beach while enjoying a lovely cocktail hour. Now, I am not a fashionista but I know what I like. I know what will flatter me, cover me and make me feel good. When I see a fashion show; while I truly enjoy seeing high fashion designer clothing, I am mostly looking for what would look good on me. What do I see that I could wear in my everyday life and then, is it affordable? For this article, I am not delving into the complicated world of fashion or what the year’s hottest trends are. You can read about those topics in any fashion magazine or blog. What I am going to do is show you my top 3 favorite designers from the show. The things we “everyday” moms want to wear, well, at least this everyday mom. So here are my top 3 picks:

How do you take the little black dress from work into evening? Hong Kong custom made jewelry designer Don Cheng is how. I love his Italian inspired chunky necklaces and bejeweled clutches. But what made the biggest impression on me was how you could take a plain look, jeans and a cami top, and add a Don Cheng necklace to instantly change the look from daytime to evening.
Though beautiful, Don Cheng necklaces can be a little pricey. I found a few pieces on www.ifchic. com where a necklace will run between $153 – $220. I found some similar styles for sale at Macy’s where I picked up a beautiful turquoise necklace for $40. Not as nice as the Dong Cheng, but it still works. Talbot’s also has several of these chunky style necklaces for around $80. A couple nice pieces will enhance your wardrobe beautifully.

Feminine, flowy and cool describe Noia Resort Wear. If you want to look chic by the pool while covering some of those tiny imperfections, this is the line for you. I love the black chenille maxi skirt! Even though it is sheer, it is dark enough to cover what I want covered and cool enough for the hottest summer days. Just fasten the maxi around any swimsuit and enjoy the beaches with confidence. More of a resort piece, the white moonlight body suit and wrap are stunning. You can buy NOIA at www.noiacollection.com. Prices range from $129 to $450 and come in sizes XS – XL

For that mom who still rocks a bikini and you know who you are, Indie Soul’s primitive print swimsuits are the cutest I have seen in a while. The “bohemian luxury” designs are a standout. Although I haven’t seen the new line for sale yet, you can buy Indie Soul suits at myindiesoul.com. Swim suits run around $200. I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse of summer fashion and found some designs that you will truly enjoy! Don’t worry, I won’t tell your husband how much you spent!

Terri Garcia has been a Southern California girl since the age of two. She has lived in Los Angeles County and both North and South Orange County. A stay-at-home mom and confessed “pinaholic”, she loves all things creative. She believes in giving back and practicing random acts of kindness. She finds joy in creating thoughtful, creative gifts, traveling, historical fiction and most importantly being mom to two very active boys. Similar to the Little Red Hen, she likes to do things herself; although in the end, she will happily share the homemade bread with family and friends.
