Where to Stay
The Inn at Laguna Beach
Looking for a resort with an ocean view? The Inn at Laguna Beach offers guests some of the best resort ocean views. The rooms are decorated beautifully, and it is centrally located within walking distance to the most popular Laguna Beach restaurants. They offer complimentary wine hour at their rooftop bar and cookies and milk before bedtime for the children.
The Laguna Beach House
If you are wanting to spend a getaway living like a local, then this is the resort for you. The Laguna Beach House is within walking distance of art museums, and restaurants. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and perfect for families. You’ll feel like family when staying at this local resort.
Pacific Edge Hotel
Families looking for a beach, and hotel experience will get everything at the Pacific Edge. The hotel is located right on the beach with complimentary beach chairs, towels, umbrellas and boogie boards. It is next door to the popular restaurant, Driftwood Kitchen and The Deck on Laguna Beach. It offers ocean front rooms and city view rooms with a heated pool and game room.
The Ranch at Laguna Beach
One of the hidden gems of Laguna Beach is The Ranch. The historic resort just underwent a major renovation and offers guests some of the most beautifully decorated resort rooms in Laguna Beach. The resort is located on the famous Ben Brown’s Golf course, and they just opened their new spa. There is a complimentary beach shuttle, pool, and restaurant. If traveling with kids, they offer a seasonal children’s club.
Where to Eat
Selanne Steak Tavern
The most highly acclaimed restaurant in Laguna Beach won’t disappoint diners. You’ll feel like you are dining in Snow White’s house as you enter this magical restaurant. Selanne Steak Tavern is the best steak house in all of Southern California, has the best service, and wine selection. Hire a sitter at your resort, and have an unforgettable date night at this romantic restaurant.
Family-friendly upscale dining is what you’ll find when dining at Las Brisas. The restaurant has been around for years because of their commitment to food quality and customer service. They serve fusion Mexican food with some of the best ocean front dining views in Laguna Beach. I recommend getting reservations during sunset to make your dining experience unlike anything else.
You’ll find a line that goes down the street on a weekend morning, and it is well worth the wait to dine at Urth Caffé for brunch. Their food quality is stellar, coffee is some of the best you’ll ever savor, and you’ll get to dine with your children in a historic local building. There is always plenty of outdoor seating on their heated patio – don’t let the wait discourage you from bringing the family for breakfast or lunch at this popular dining destination.
Nestled in the middle of downtown Laguna Beach is this adorable cafe that is perfect for families to stop in for breakfast. They have a dog-friendly patio, delicious bites, and your family can walk to one of the many art museums that are located in the area after breakfast.
Three Seventy Common
A popular dining spot for locals is Three Seventy Common. It is a great place for parents to stop in for a cocktail or a fun date night. The chef is always creating innovative culinary creations that will have you craving a return for more.
After a day playing with the kids at Laguna Beach, we love taking the trolley to have lunch at Gina’s Pizza. The pizza place has been around since I was a kid, and their pizza is one of the best in Laguna. The restaurant is very casual, family-friendly, and you can grab a slice while in your swimsuit and covered with a towel – it is that local.
Crystal Cove Shake Shack
Take your family for a cruise along the coast and then make a stop at the Crystal Cove Shake Shack for a milkshake and burger. Parking is never easy at this popular dining hot spot, but it is well worth the wait. Families can also park in the Crystal Cove parking lot, play at the beach and then walk up to the Shake Shack for lunch.
Some may assume that Driftwood is just for date nights, but it is also a great place to bring your family for a seasonal meal from a chef-driven kitchen. The restaurant offers beautiful ocean views, and families can take a walk along the beach following dinner.
Where to Play
Dr. Seuss Exhibit
We just happened to stumble upon the Dr. Seuss exhibit during a recent visit to Laguna Beach, and our children spent hours walking around looking at the beautiful artwork. The museum is complimentary to visit and is located at 417 South Coast Highway.
Bluebird Canyon Park
One of the most popular playgrounds in Orange County is Bluebird Canyon Park. The park is gated to keep kids safe from running out into streets. It has a great bike path, slides built into the hill and cool play structures.
Woods Cove Beach
A local favorite is Woods Cove Beach. It has some of the clearest ocean waters along the Southern California coastline, tide pools, and even the famous OC blowhole. Bring your umbrella, beach chairs and towels for a fun family day at the beach.
One of the most historic beaches in California is Victoria Beach. It is home to the famous “Rapunzel’s tower” and natural swimming pool. When the tide is just right, there will be a swimming pool next to the tower filled with fresh ocean water (usually during the winter months). There is also a long white sandy beach and tide pools.
Explore Tide Pools
Laguna Beach is home to the best tide pools in Southern California. Families can experience tide pools at almost every beach in Laguna. We recommend checking the tide reports online and bring the kiddos on a day when it is low tide to get the most out of your tide pool experience – please remember that the tide pools in Laguna are protected, and it is against the law to remove any shells or animals.
Ride the Laguna Beach Trolley
The best part of Laguna Beach is that once you find a parking spot, your family can travel anywhere in the city by riding the complimentary Laguna Beach Trolley. There are trolley stops all along PCH, and the trolley runs throughout the day.
Watch a play at the Laguna Playhouse
The Laguna Playhouse is the perfect place to introduce your children to the theater. It is a small theater so that children won’t feel overwhelmed, and the productions are always perfection. There is always something new playing at the Laguna Playhouse. Tickets are reasonably priced, and your family will have a great night out at the theater.
There is so much for families to do when visiting Laguna Beach. Plan a day out or a weekend staycation in Laguna, and it is guaranteed to be a getaway your children will remember forever.
