2016 Annual Pumpkin Launch


It’s time for the annual popular family event, The Pumpkin Launch, filled with hands-on challenges, flying pumpkins launched by giant trebuchets, and family-friendly activities and entertainment in celebration of the holiday season.


Teams made up of local middle school, high school, and college students, as well as local families, will compete and apply their engineering skills to create pumpkin catapults to launch pumpkins at targets. A winner will be named for most amount of points accrued by hitting targets at varying distances.


Additional activities include:
Building catapults with Popsicle sticks
Designing paper airplanes for distance and accuracy
Launching marshmallows at mini targets
Engineering standalone block towers
Launching film canister rockets
Archery Demonstration
Medieval costumes, weapons and weaving materials, as well as other artifacts from the medieval ages, will also be on display.


Attendees will have an opportunity to meet student engineers from the University to learn how their event experiences translate into everyday STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and engineering practices. Also, nine of southern California’s finest gourmet food trucks will be on-site offering a variety of culinary selections.

The community is welcome to bring lawn chairs to watch the pumpkin launch.
