25th Anniversary of Sawdust Winter Fantasy Festival

We attended as a guest of the venue

The Sawdust Art & Craft Festival in Laguna Beach is celebrating its 25th anniversary of the Winter Festival Fantasy.  The festival is dedicated to promoting the works of talented artists, both local and from around the world and educating the public on different forms of art.  With over 175 artists displaying their work, you will have no problem finding one of a kind holiday gifts for your friends and family.

John Eagle is one of the local artists that has a booth at the festival, and you can find him working on original works during the festival. John is a local painter and has spent the last 25 years selling and displaying his art at both the summer and winter festivals.  It is what makes this festival so special.  You and your children can watch these masterpieces being created right in front of you.  What a wonderful way to expose yourself and children to the arts.

You can also get hands on at the festival.  With so many different activities taking place throughout the day, you can create your own masterpieces.  You can get your hands dirty at the Ceramic Center and “throw a pot” or visit Studio One and do your own acrylic painting.  Local artist, Donita Lloyd, is on hand to help painters during the Snowman in acrylic class.  Donita Lloyd is known for her incredible oceanic influenced artwork.  What an exciting opportunity to get hands-on guidance from this lovely lady.

Some classes have age requirements, at least, 7 years old but do not fret; there is something for everyone.  Your little ones under seven can visit the Art Spot and make their own unique creations.  There is a small fee for some classes while others are completely free, and you can take home your creations.  But please be sure to donate to the “tip” boxes located at each center, as the Sawdust Festival is a non-profit organization.  These amazing folks are here because of their love for Art and enjoy sharing their talents with the public.

There are several different locations to sit and to listen to local musicians while you grab a bite of something to eat.  You can enjoy the Christmas Carolers as you wait to take a photo with Santa or one in his sleigh.

The artists have decorated their booths for the holidays and have unique and wonderful gifts for the holidays.  Kristen Thompson is a local photographer who has a booth at the Winter Festival, and we were able to watch her make some unique holiday clay ornaments that have a very tropical feel.  There are many artists for your children to meet at the Winter Festival and so many great things to do.

Be sure to head on down to the 25th Sawdust Winter Fantasy Festival.  The festival is every weekend through December 20th.  Hours of operation of 10:00 am – 6:00 pm.
