Cold and flu survival tips

The worst thing that can happen to a mom is coming down with a cold or flu. When a fever strikes, as moms, we need to strike back harder. These are some great tips to help survive the hardest days as a mom when a cold and flu strikes home!

The best thing that a mom can do when getting sick is to get plenty of rest. Although it can be challenging when chasing toddlers around the house, call a friend or relative to help so that you can get the rest your body needs to fight the germs that are attacking your immune system.

Drink lots of water to keep your body hydrated when fighting a cold/flu. It might make sense to drink plenty of water when you’re sick, but it can often be a challenge to get the fluids down that your body needs.

This is the time that video games, ipads, and videos were invented for. Break out your digital arsenal to help keep the kids entertained while you get your rest.

Crockpots were invented for times like this. I always have some pre-made crockpot dinners frozen in ziploc bags to use during the cold and flu season. All you’ll have to do is drop the ingredients out of the freezer bag into the slow cooker, and your family has a warm dinner on the table at night.

While I prefer natural health remedies, there is always a time when cold/flu medication can play a vital role. When it comes to over the counter medicine, NyQuil Sever Cold & Flu has always been my go-to choice. They have daytime and nighttime options that can be purchased at a low-cost at your local Walmart. It helps with headache, fever, sore throat, nasal congestion, sneezing and cough. It covers almost everything that moms encounter when getting sick.

If you find yourself down with a cold or flu, just know that warm summer days are right around the corner, and your family will be healthy and happy throughout the summer months.
