5 Easy Decorating Tips for New Homeowners This Summer

As a brand new homeowner, you’re probably eager to begin making the house into your home, and since summer is the time of year perfect for entertaining, you might be scrambling to find decorating tips that are sure to impress the guests.

Here are five easy decorating tips that first-time homeowners are sure to love.

1. Bring nature indoors

It’s understandable that it’s summertime and you want to spend as much time outside as you can. We feel you! However, that doesn’t mean you can bring the outdoors inside! Adding plants to your decor not only livens up the place but also gives your space a pop of color and vibrancy.

2. Be artistic

Although you may not think yourself to be artistic or have an eye for art, you might surprise yourself. You can do cool wall treatments to create an attention-grabbing accent wall. You could create an abstract painting on a large canvas. Of course, you can find great prints and have them framed if you’d rather go that route.

3. Metallic accents

Adding metallic finishes to a space is the quickest way to make the room feel posh. Warm metallics like gold, bronze, brass, and rose gold are in vogue this season but avoid the temptation to go all out. Instead, stick to small items like picture frames, lampshades, decorative knick-knacks, or cabinet hardware. If you don’t want to buy all new items, a can of spray paint  (or two) will suffice.

4. Pop of classic blue

Now that you’re a new homeowner and no longer a renter, you can finally go bold and paint whatever you want! This year, Pantone named Classic Blue the year’s “it” color, a fantastic color that makes a big statement. You can paint an entire room the color or put it on one wall to create an accent wall. You can find accessories and other decor items in color to give your space that added wow-factor.

Note: Usually, folks will tell you to avoid painting an entire room a bold color like Classic Blue because it would affect your home’s value if you were to have a free home appraisal done. However, since you own the place and will be living there for a while, you can do whatever you want!

5. Shabby-chic is back

The trend was incredibly popular a decade or so ago, but it’s coming back, baby! Since this trend embraces the well-worn look, you don’t have to spend a small fortune on new furniture that’s made to look old. You can go to any second-hand shop and buy old furniture (that’s more or less in good condition) and use distressed painting techniques to enhance the rustic vibe.

The beauty of owning your own home is that you can do whatever you want to your place, regardless of the latest decor trends you’ll find online. It doesn’t matter if you’re decorating your first home for the summer or if you just want some fresh ideas, we’re happy to help!
