5 Steps to a Cool Girl Bedroom Makeover

All over the Internet there are some cool Tumblr-inspired bedrooms, which is exactly why I decided it was time for a mini bedroom makeover.  Even with my small budget, I was able to pull off a pretty incredible remodel. For those of you interested in redecorating your bedroom, here are some tips and tricks that I learned along the way:

Step 1: Pick your Room Theme
This is important because you don’t want to have a room with lots of crazy patterns and colors. Some trendy room themes are zebra and pink, beach and blue and neon colors. If none of those seem to fit your personality then pick your own room theme.

Step 2: Select Key Anchor/Main Pieces
Select and install your main room elements, such as furniture and bedding. Some “must have” furniture in your room is a bed, a nightstand and a dresser and/or closet. Some optional furniture pieces are a desk, reading chair, toy chests, bookshelves, bins, etc. Bedding is the key to keeping your entire room theme cohesive so make sure it’s bedding that you really like!

Step 3: Add Accessories
Details, details, details! Accessories are important because they give your room pizazz. Some of my favorite inexpensive and cool accessories include:

  • Flowers in Mason Jars
  • Wall photo string
  • Cute lamps/lamp shades
  • Photos in coordinating frames

Step 4: Personalize Your Room
Everyone knows that your room will be no fun without your personal style. Here are some tips to show the world your who  you are:

  • Photos of you/and your friends/family
  • Things that you love (think hobbies, sports and interests)
  • Your own crafts
  • Corkboard and other textiles
  • Anything that you want that shows your personal style and personality!

Step 5: Organization
Organization is a definite must for your “new” room so your new room can’t be a mess all the time.  Here are some good organization tips that I follow:

  • Containers, Bins, Trashcans – Toss it or store it. Messiness in a room is something you don’t want guests to be talking about.
  • Drawer Organizers – These will help organize random junk in your drawers.
  • Be Creative – Pick up anything that will help organize your room.

These are just few tips to jumpstart your bedroom makeover. To get more ideas, check out videos online (get your parents OK first), such as Bethany Mota Roomspiration. Remember, let your personality shine when it comes to your room – after all you’ll be spending a lot of time in it!
