Segerstom Debuts Egg by Cahoots NI

We attended as guests of SCTFA.

Egg

Segerstrom Center for the Art’s (SCFTA) wonderful Family Discovery Series debuted a new family friendly production this month entitled Egg. I took my two girls (ages 3 and 6) for a Mommy Daughter date day, and it was the perfect way to spend a beautiful spring afternoon!

Egg

Egg, performed by Cahoots NI, a professional children’s theater company based in Belfast, Northern Ireland, is told through physical theatre, illusion and music. It is a funny, emotional, yet delightful story that tells of brotherhood, love, and leaving the nest, a theme that resonates as strongly with children as it does with adults. My girls got quite weepy at the scenes of the endearing brother birds leaving the comfort and routine of the nest and flying off to their own lives, a reality that even the youngest audience member can relate to some day becoming true. This universal truth makes Egg relatable to all age groups and gives it true emotional power.

Egg

I love to expose my children to all forms of entertainment, far beyond the standard Saturday morning cartoons (there is so much more that that!) Egg, with it’s powerful sound effects, and story told completely non-verbally, is just another form of art to which I’m happy to have been able to expose my kids.  It is truly amazing that a three year old can understand and relate to an in-depth story that contains absolutely no words.  Cahoots NI has done a fabulous job with Egg!

Egg

Sensory-friendly and ASL interpreted performances added to the truly family friendly performances of Egg.

In addition to the performance, audiences were encouraged to arrive an hour before the performance for free creative activities. SCFTA’s Education Department is pleased to offers enriching experiences to provide families more opportunities to engage in creative play together, which studies show is critical in helping to develop the ability to think and problem solve.

Segerstrom Center for the Arts (SCFTA), previously called Orange County Performing Arts Center, is Orange County largest non-profit arts organization.
