84th Annual Festival of Arts

Festival of Arts

OC Mom was invited to Laguna Beach for a behind the scenes look at the 84th Annual Festival of Arts which will run July 5 – August 31, 2016.  The festival hosts 140 local artists as well as live music, hands-on art activities, exhibitions of local student artwork and a wide variety of special events.

Entrance to the Festival of Arts

One of the perks of the behind the scenes access is meeting artists Carla Bosch, Mike Tauber and Vinita Voogd who gave us a preview of what will be showcased in July.

The Festival will have dozens of events through its run.  One that I look forward to is the Festival Runway Fashion Show on August 13.  Models will strut down the runway wearing fashion designed by recycled materials.  After seeing a few dresses from last year, I can wait to see what designers and in store for us this year.

With such a full schedule of events, the brilliant team at the Festival still found room to introduce three new events.  On Tuesday nights, up and coming musicians will perform on the Festival stage. The Rising Stars Music Series will showcase these performers and unite music and art.  Another new event will be a meet and greet with authors Steve Hely and Michelle Gable at Books and Brunch.

The bestsellers will share their personal insights about their work and creative process as well as a book signing, author lecture and of course brunch.   For those art lovers with children 5 and under, Monday would be a perfect day to bring the kids to the Festival. A new weekly series called Art and Story Time presented by Crayola will feature a different children’s book read aloud and a hands-on art project, along with special surprise visits from illustrators, book characters and more.  The Festival has something for everyone in your family from workshops, artist demonstrations, tours and dining.  It’s definitely an event you will not want to miss.  The Festival runs July 5 – August 31, 2016 and is open daily from 10am – 11:30pm (check website for early closing days).  General Admission: Weekdays $8, Weekends $12 Students & Seniors: Weekdays $5, Weekends $8.  Free Admission for Children 12 and under, Military, and Laguna Beach Residents.  For those of you who plan on frequent visits, www.LagunaBeachPassport.com, offers a passport that gives you unlimited access to the Festival of Arts, Laguna Art-A-Fair and Sawdust Art & Craft Festivals for just $24.  The Festival of Arts Grounds is located at 650 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach, CA 92651.  For more information about the Festival or to purchase tickets you can contact them at (800) 487-3378 or visit their webpage at www.LagunaFestivalofArts.org.

I’m an OC mom of two and photographer. I love living in Southern California and want to expose my children to all that it offers. I love taking my kids on adventures and capturing their every moment so much so that my kids find it odd if I don’t take their pictures. You can see my work on facebook.com/photosbynaz.
